More accurately, "an artist drawing a jet-driven project" based on boundary layer control principles described much earlier by Professors Ludwig Prandtl (Göttingen) and Alexander Baumann (Universität Stuttgart). Jack Baumann was, of course, an American-born designer.
Alexander Baumann was the first ever professor of aeronautical engineering. During WWI, Baumann was chief designer for von Zeppelin's Versuchsbau Gotha-Ost (assisted by his protogé Adolph Rohrbach as well as Claudius Dornier and Hugo Junkers).
