I can see turbocharger in this XP-56 initial design with X-1800 engine.

The R-2800 also has a path to bypass the first stage, and it is a specification that can be selected for three types of supercharged combinations: "only the second stage", "one stage low speed + two stages", and "one-stage high-speed + two-stage".
