WASHINGTON --- The Navy formalized key ship specifications for both the United States' Ohio Replacement and United Kingdom's Successor Programs in a document signed Aug. 31 at the Washington Navy Yard.

Rear Adm. Thomas J. Eccles, chief engineer and deputy commander Naval Systems Engineering Directorate, Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and Capt. William J. Brougham, Ohio Replacement program manager, signed the Ohio Replacement First Article Quad Pack Ship Specification document, marking a major construction milestone.

Anybody have details?

As far as I can tell, all this says is that the USN has finalized the missile-tube specifications, which the UK will have to copy. Everything else is still up in the air at this point.

Interesting stuff if you are curious about what the next USN SSBN (and some parts of the next Royal Navy SSBN) will look like.

- Not a Virginia Stretch.

- Slightly larger dimensions and displacement that Ohio (20,8K tons full, 561' length), crew of 155

- 16 x 87'' tubes (compatible with 83'' Trident D5)

- Pump-jet and spherical array off of Virginia

- Common missile compartment with RN Trident Replacement programme (costs shared)

- 12 submarine program, construction starting 2021, delivery starting with 2027
