What happens when Mitsubishi and Lockheed Martin form a joint venture to build a F-22J Super Raptor for Japan? Does Lockheed Martin also build the F-22/F-35 hybrid for the United States Air Force to address the 194 aircraft shortfall?
What shortfall do you think needs to be addressed that is not already in the works?Triton said:Does the United States Air Force address this shortfall with the F-35, an improved F-15, and/or an arsenal plane?

I think that is what they are doing with all of the F-35 upgrades, including the advanced engine. Whatever comes out of the Japanese RFP will moist certainly fall into this category.FighterJock said:it would be much more sensible to go down the route of a 5th gen plus style of aircraft.
FighterJock said:that will probably face the same fate as the F-22.

Any further discussion on Japanese efforts, LM proposal for a hybrid F-22&-35 and so on are off.

It is an interesting conversation... Maybe a moderator could spin it into a new thread.

Well I just checked via search and there is no existing thread on such a subject, so mods Please set one up.

There is already a thread on the next generation programme (prospective F-3 here): https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,11566.105.html

But for the moment this F-22/-35-hybrid is IMO a bit different ...

So in summary, what do we have to think about this type?
Could it be indeed a F-22V.2 with systems from the F-35? ... and all that despite production-tooling and so are probably no longer existent?
