Mitsubishi Ki-50 this is the project that i have seen mentioned on "Nakajima Ki. 49 Donryu in Japanese Army Air Force Service" of schiffer publishing : anyone know more about this project ? ( photo, technical data , etc )

Seems that Mitsubishi ki-50 was the antagonist to project of Nakajima Ki-49 !

Mitsubishi Ki-50 Heavy Bomber
The IJA ordered Nakajima and Mitsubishi to develop new heavy bomber in 1937.
Mitsubishi initiated development of Ki-50 heavy bomber.
A competitor was Nakashima Ki-49, type 100 heavy bomber Donryu.
But Mitsubishi was very busy with improvement work of type 97 heavy bomber which had been just thrown into the Sino-Japanese war.
Development of Ki-50 heavy bombers was canceled at the design audit stage, and development of new heavy bomber was entrusted to Nakajima Aircraft only.
The IJA ordered Mitsubishi to develop type 97 II heavy bomber in 1939.
The flight performance of completed type 97 Ⅱ heavy bomber was superior compared with Nakajima Ki-49 heavy bomber Donryu!! ;D
It is possible to think that the Ki-50 heavy bomber was realized as the type 97 II heavy bomber.

Blackkite san,

Thank you for the video of the Ki-21. I had never seen film of this plane before. I have a couple of questions:

A.) At 21:05 a downed Ki-21 is set off with explosives by Japanese troops. Was this done to prevent the Chinese/Americans from gaining technological information?

B.) At 21:25 there are Japanese troops boarding a Ki-21 or a Ki-57/L4M (the army/navy transport version of the Ki-21), was this for the commando raid on Saipan against the B-29 base or something else (the first one boarding the plane has a bouquet of flowers)?

Thanks!

Hi windswords-san!
Your question is very sharp.
The answer of your first question.
This scene was blow up practice of the enemy airplane after enforcement landed at an enemy airport.

The answer of your second question. It was Gi-go operation to Okinawa American air base in 24/5/1945.
