We're working on an online story about the 1954-56 Constellation Turbo projects- 1249 to 1549. There is very little information on the planned Cargo 1049J. From what we can gather it was essentially a Turbo-Prop Super H but was not a convertible, strictly a dedicated cargo aircraft. We believe it was going to be powered by the P&W PT-2 but we have seen a mention of the Allison being the planned power. Does anyone have any information that we can verify on the 1049J Thanks!

My understanding is that the L-1049J was to utilise the wings of the R7V-2 which were powered by Pratt & Whitney YT34-P-12A turboprops of 4,140 shp (3,088 kW) each. Source was Dominique Breffort's Lockheed Constellation: from Excalibur to Starliner Civilian and Military Variants.

Thank You! It must have been a very short-lived project by the lack of even a listing in some Constellation books!
