Dear Archiblad,

I mention here some little known aircraft and projects ,it is difficult to find it
in any site.

LeO 40:experimental aircraft ,was two seat tourer with full span slats on both wing.

LeO 41:experimental light aircraft with long control surface carried on a series
of struts behind the wing.

LeO C.41 :heavy transport autogyro Project.

Hi

Does someone know other infos (history, 3 views, other photos apart one isolated photo in the Docavia 23, derivative projects, ...) about a french heavy night bomber protototype of the 30's : the LeO 300/301

http://www.aviafrance.com/aviafrance1.php?ID=5683&ID_CONSTRUCTEUR=825&ANNEE=0&ID_MISSION=0&MOTCLEF=

Hi Deltafan,

I don't understand,do you want the other proposals to this competition
with LeO-300 & 301 or what?.

Hi Hesham ! :)

I know, my english is bad :-[

I am interested in all informations about the LeO 300/301.

There was only a photo about this plane (without horizontal fins !) in the Docavia 23 (LeO 45, Amiot 350 and other B4 french bombers) and no explanation apart that it was a Bn5 (french night bomber with 5 seats).

There is nothing about this plane in the Docavia 12 (french bomber and reco aviation 1918-1940).

The two links of Aviafrance give only a few more informations (first fly, engines and power, max speed, dimensions).

Hi Deltafan,

A little information about LeO-300,it was powered by four 500
hp Renault 12Jb engines mounted in tandem pairs in wings which
spanned 38.00m and had a speed of 210 km/h,it had a shoulder wing
and the cabin location was over the wing crossing with fuselage,
nose turret and four main fixed land gear.

Thanks Hesham !

I found informations about a LeO "30" (not 300 or 301) that was competitor of the BN 4 (maybe the 300) and the later BN 5 (maybe the 301) programmes. The BN 4 programme was abandoned and the Bloch 200 and Farman 221 were winners of the BN 5 programme (but they were not used as BN 5...).

http://www.hydroretro.net/etudegh/derniersavionsfarman.pdf

I asked too in a french historians forum. I wait the answers...

I got informations and a three views drawing in the french forum (aerostories).

The LeO 300 flew and was a competitor of the abandoned BN 4 programme. He has vibrations problems with the engines.

The LeO 301 (derivative of the 300 with more powereful engines) was another plane and a competitor for the BN 5 programme. He was never finished and never flew. That's probably why i found a photo without horizontal fins.

The 3 views drawing is there :

Hi all,

I search for little known aircraft and projects by this firm... (drawings, pics and technical data)

... LeO.14, LeO.16, LeO.17, LeO.26, LeO.28, LeO.29, LeO.31 to LeO.39 :-\

Thanks

Hi all ,

Looking out for more info ( foto or drawing ) of the Lioré et Olivier LeO 30 ,
4-engined bomber of 1933.

Thanks in advance.

Swallow.

Hi,

It was renamed LeO-300 ; only 1 prototype made.

You have details on this page : http://www.aviafrance.com/constructeur.php?ID_CONSTRUCTEUR=825
the 4 engines where then replaced by Hispano-Suiza 12Ybrs (650 HP), and the aircraft was renamed LeO-301.

May be Stargazer,

and may be it was proceed the C.41,who knows.

Nice pages on the LeO H.42 and H.43 from a vintage company brochure, enhanced from poor scans in the Philippe Veys collection:

Hi,

the LeO-3 was a low-wing single seat fighter monoplane project of 1915,intended to
achieve 290 km/h speed,led to developed LeO-9.

Hi,

as I heard,the SNCASE SE-012 was a stratosphere Airplane Project,developed from
LeO-457,has anyone a drawing to it ?.

The unbuilt LeO 457 was, itself, to have been a high-altitude version of the LeO 451 powered by 1,300 hp Gnome-Rhône 14 N-48/49 radials. I doubt that SNCASE would have been interested in resurrecting the LeO 457 ... it would compete with their SE-1010.

Besides, wasn't the SE.100, the enlarged LeO 50 concept, SNCASE's first designation?

Yes my dear Apophenia,

but SNCASE SE-012 was a real Project,developed from LeO-457.

That's not what the text says. It speaks of a pressurized cell similar to the one planned for the LeO 457, a circular section fuselage for the SE-012 quite unlike the 457's oval section fuselage, differently shaped vertical surfaces as well as a different side profile. A similarly shaped wing is mentioned.

By the way,

this Project was called LeO Za.

Hi! I think this picture shows LeO 45-01 prototype (Mod) base on some left wing device.
What is this device?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lior%C3%A9_et_Olivier_LeO_45
"On 16 January 1937, the LeO 45-01 prototype, powered by a pair of Hispano-Suiza 14AA-6 / Hispano-Suiza 14AA-7 radial engines producing 1,120 hp (835 kW) each, flew for the first time. Despite problems experienced with longitudinal instability, engine reliability and overheating, the aircraft demonstrated excellent overall performance. During flight testing, the prototype was capable of reaching 480 km/h (260 knots, 300 mph) at 4000 m and of attaining 624 km/h (337 knots, 388 mph) in a shallow dive.

In September 1937, the prototype was delivered to the Centre d'Essais de Matériels Aériens at Vélizy-Villacoublay for the type's official evaluation. On 6 December 1937, it was involved in a forced landing incident as a result of both engines having failed simultaneously in mid-flight; the pilot, Jea Doumerc, was able to land without sustaining any damage. The prototype was promptly returned to the manufacturer for adjustments prior to the resumption of evaluation flights. In July 1938, the prototype, fitted with the new Mercier-designed cowlings, attained 500 km/h (270 knots, 311 mph). The earlier instability issues were partially addressed via the adoption of redesigned twin fins and rudders on the tail unit.

Various issues with the troublesome Hispano-Suiza engines had been experienced and this resulted in several changes being made to the prototype, such as the adoption of broader, more efficient air intakes for the oil coolers, which in turn reduced instances of engine overheating. On 29 August 1938, it was decided to replace the existing Hispano-Suiza engines by Gnome-Rhone 14N 20/21 engines, which were capable of producing 1,030 hp (768 kW) each; as a result of these changes, the aircraft was re-designated as LeO 451-01. Following the completion of the re-engining, the flight test programme was resumed, running from 21 October 1938 to February 1939. In spite of the new engines being slightly less powerful, the speed and general performance of the prototype remained relatively unchanged.

I think these pictures shows LeO 45-01 prototype.
Shape of front wind shield for pilot is apparently different from LeO 45 -01(Mod) prototype.
But propeller spinner shape is different between two pictures. ???
