Hi! The IJA's Akitsumaru.(秋津丸)

In 1943, the IJA planned to use Ka-Go for anti submarine warfare mission on Akitsu maru.
Akitsu maru's modification to the carrier was completed in July 1943. Ka-Go's take off and landing test on Akitsumaru was succeeded, but the IJA decided to use Kokusai Ki-76 3 shiki artillery spotter and liaison aircraft for ASW mission because of higher performance compared with Ka-Go. Then Ka-Go were used for sea lane guard mission in Japan sea.(Pusan Kyushu route.)

New topic split from the old "Japanese Projects before 1945" thread. Any additional pics or information on the Ki-76 (or its use by the IJN) are much welcome!

That's the thing. The Ki-76 wasn't operated by the IJN, but by the IJA. So was the Akitsu Maru and her sistership the Nigitsu Maru (the IJA did operate ships).

Thanks for this clarification! I wasn't aware that the IJA operated ships... :-\

You are welcome. The IJA was just like the US Army in this respect. ;)
