Anyone got an idea what those first two pics in Deino's last post are? It looks suspiciously like a stand-off land-attack missile of some sort. (I know it's not the US SLAM, I'm using the term generically.)

I saw a description of that somewhere on the web - I think it's a research drone of some kind.

Now that may be cover for something else - the current interpretation of the Japanese Constitution does not permit Japan to have overtly offensive weapons.

Finally some new info on that "mini-aircraft" under the F-15J's wing ...

Cool detail shots of many mysterious Japanese projects! I wonder what the reasoning behind airlaunching an UAV which then makes a runway recovery is though. Has Japan bought JDAM or is that GBU an indigenous project?

Greater range would be one reason.

It's rather remarkably small for a UAV, especially considering that it has landing gear!

I too have to wonder if an anti-ship derivative is in the works.

If so, one could speculate about loitering capability.

Snips from Deino's link in post #10: http://minkara.carview.co.jp/userid/202168/blog/11265205/

It is named "TACOM" in the picture text.
