U S certification delayed due to engine testing. Hopefully we'll see this interesting bird flying soon.

This is the MH02 designed by Honda with Mississippi State University and a precusor to the HondaJet. Flown for a total of 170h between March 1993 and August 1996, the MH02 had two Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D turbofans mounted above a high-set, forward-swept wing. The design was optimised for runway performance, and is claimed by Honda to have been the first all-composite small business jet.

The $4.5 million jet will be available in five colors, and with the debut of the production version, the company now has one in each color in its fleet. The newest jet is deep green with a gold stripe; the other choices are red, silver, yellow, and blue. The jet flies at a maximum cruise speed of 483 mph, at altitudes up to 43,000 feet, with a range of about 1,350 miles. A single pilot can fly the jet, and it seats as many as five passengers. HondaJet will provide training for pilots and mechanics at its headquarters in Greensboro, N.C. The company expects to deliver as many as 55 jets in the first year of production, which is currently booked for two years.

Honda is causing trouble to Jenson Button very much in the past. Trouble is being also caused to Fernando Alonso well as Button this time. It'll be also useless next season. Honda withdraws from F1 by strange timing in the past and also joins F1 by strange timing this time. Really how can't it be done? :'(

Currently Hondajet N420EX is registered to Wells Fargo Bank Northwest, however this could be a finance company for Honda. I'm sure whoever received the first one will be quick to show-it-off!!

Wells Fargo Bank Northwest isn't exactly a finance company, they're a trust company. There are a large number of aircraft with Wells Fargo Northwest registries because they are being held in an "aircraft trust" which is basically a mechanism to allow a non-US citizen to own an aircraft with a US registry number. Wells Fargo is technically the trustee, "administering" the aircraft in the interest of the actual owner (trustor). In most cases, all WF is actually doing is holding the registration; the real owner operates it.

Now that MRJ is dead, it got me wondering what Honda, now Japan's only manufacturer of civilian aircraft, would be thinking in terms of market opportunity.

I don't think their end goal is the HA-420 series aircrafts (lately they've announced the Elite II) that is VLJ and I'm pretty sure they'll enter the larger business jet markets with the reputation they've built upon the HA-420, soon enough. I've been looking for some market researches but most of them costs a few grands and are out of reach for enthusiast purposes so I'd like to do the next best thing and ask fellow members.

What do you guys think is the plausible market for Honda Aero in the next decade or two?
  1. Stay within the VLJ/light jet market
  2. Expansion to mid-size (Learjet competitor)
  3. Expansiom into mid- and large sized biz-jets (where top of the line Cessna is)
  4. Expansion into long-range biz-jets and regional jet business (becoming Japanese Gulfstream/ Dassault or even Embraer so to speak), achieve what other Japanese heavy industry and aerospace companies couldn't
I'd say #4 is definitely too far fetched, especially without government funding. Also, to achieve such within 2 decades they'll probably need help from other Japanese heavy industries companies which I don't think would be beneficial to program management perspective. Add to that other potential problems, especially the supply chain issues Mitsubishi experienced, would not be all that differemt for Honda.

I'd also say #3 is also a very long shot as well and would require some significant CAPEX and R&D expansion, but achieving #2 doesn't sound like an impossible feat imo.

Though, compared to MRJ there are a few problems with Honda Aero's expansion into larger jet markets. For one they wouldn't be subsidised by the governemnt and two, in case of MRJ, Japanese airlines like ANA lined up with their orders for regional routes which are quite profitable, especially with a more efficient jet that MRJ was supposed to be when the program was first introduced. In case of a medium sized Honda biz jet, there is no main customer to anchor around and market penetration would solely be up to Honda themselves. They might first find some success in Japanese business market but that is also not a given.

Four years ago, I heard that there was a lack of flight sims for the HondaJet, in addition to there being relatively few certified pilots for it. How is the situation now?
