Just wondering if anyone had any info(details, line drawings, layouts or photos) of 3 of the military models proposed for the F-27/F-50 series, the F-27 Kingbird AEW,the Sentinal ELINT model and the Black Crow Recon model.

Seems like in each case, given the popularity of the F-27,SOMEONE should have ordered some of the special missions models.

Dear Iranian F-14A,

I will try to find some pictures of the special F-27/F-50 versions. As far as I know following "special"
versions were built and/or planned.
F27MPA/F27MAR: Maritime Patrol models ordered by Thailand, Australia, Spain, Netherlands, Phillipines and Peru. Most F27MAR/MPA aircraft were based on the F27 Srs.200 airframe, but the aircraft for Peru on the F27 Ss.400.
F27-200ME Maritime Enforcer: An planned F27MPA/MAR variant for ASW/ASV operations with underwing pylons for ASMs (Air-Surface-Missiles), gun pods, torpedoes, stub wings, MAD tail and 360º radar in belly radome. Only a demonstrator was built from an existing earlier airframe.
F27 Sentinel: Planned version for battlefield/surveillance/ELINT/recce operations. Underfuisel;age pod with SLAMMR radar and underwing pylons as in the F27-200ME. No aircraft were built.
F27 Kingbird AEW: Planned AEW version with retractable 360º scan belly radar and extensive onboard computer systems. No aircraft were built.

Details on F50 versions to follow

Best regards, Walter

F50/F60 special versions.
F50 Maritime Enforcer Mk.2 (alias F50ME2/F50/ME2S); Maritime Patrol/surveillance model with large 360º scan belly radar, underwing pylons, fuselage pylons, searchlights, proviosion for torpedoes etc. Total of 5 aircraft built and the examples for Singapore were known as F50ME2S models. Several aircraft were observed with a long under fuselage pod and a small chin radar.
F50 Kingbird Mk.2/Mk.2E: The Kingbird Mk.2 was a planned AEW/Airborne Command Control version which was initially designed with a retractable belly radome. No aircraft were built. Further work resulted in the Mk.2E with a long dorsal-mounted Erickson Erieye. Reportedly only an aerodynamic test aircraft with the Erieye radar was flown and this was a former Maersk airliner.
F50 Black Crow Mk.2: Planned AEW model, but not built.
F50 Sentinel Mk.2: Planned recce/border patrol version with special equipment. Not built.
F60MPA: This designation was assigned to two Dutch Air Force F60U freighters which were in 2005 adapted for maritime patrol operations in the Dutch West Indies. These aircraft were sold to the Peruvian navy last week!.
Regards, Walter

A close look at the tail shows this to be the Fairchild F-27. The same aircraft but marketed in the U.S.

And, no, the Friendship never was procured by any U.S. military service. This being said:
  • A version of it, the Fairchild M-258, was briefly considered for the C-138 slot.
  • Two civilian Fokker F-27 aircraft were confiscated by the U.S. Government and are used for the U.S. Army's Golden Knights parachute team as the C-31A Troopship.

I believe this is the Erieye demonstrator.

A general arrangement drawing also available here:

The US Navy procured and operated one Fairchild F-27 with serial 161628. It was unofficially designated as UC-27A and was udes for some years by the Atlantic Underwater test and Evaluation Centre. A photo is enclosed.
The two aircraft used by the Golden Knights were designated as C-31A and carried serials 85-1607 and 85-1608.
Fokker did propose a COD version of the F-28 jet to the US Navy, but that's another story.

The photo enclosed carries the caption "C-31" while you state it depicts the "UC-27A". Could you clarify please? Thanks. Also, I believe the non-standard designation used was plain UC-27, no suffix.

I apologize, but in my database I have the photo stored along with the Golden Knight's C-31, hence the C-31(2) caption. Sorry for the confusion. And I believe it was UC-27A.

Finland had 3 Fokker F.27 aircraft and one of them (FF-1) was modified for ELINT operations by FAF signal intelligence unit Viestikoelaitos (Signals Test Facility).
I found this image of it:

For some reason the aircraft is called "Porcupine"

This is a model of the F-27 Maritime Enforcer. The model was made by Fokker, and can be seen in the Aviodrome museum.

Out of a matter of interest was there ever consideration to giving the F27 Troopship a tail ramp?

Airvestors Says there was some level of study done on the idea, but no detaisl at all:

http://www.airvectors.net/avatr.html#m2

Studies were performed on F27s with a tail loading ramp, four engines and
short-takeoff capability, jet propulsion, and even a flying boat hull, but none
of them happened either.
Flight International mentions the designation F.27MA for a version with a rear loading door and conventional wing, and F.27MS for the rear door and a short-field wing. It also mentions 4-engined STOL and jet versions. No sign of the flying boat design, though.

http://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchive/view/1976/1976%20-%202310.html

Production is running at two a month and deliveries of the F.27 Maritime are
expected to reach 35 aircraft in the last four years of this decade. Total
production of F.27 versions could also be increased by a new, rear-loading
military variant if a partner can be found to undertake detail design and
engineering of the new rear fuselage. Proposed rear-loading aircraft are
designated F.27MA with the standard wing and F.27MS with fixed or retractable
slats, wing spoilers and improved trailing-edge flaps for short-field
performance.

Studies of a four-PT6 Stol F.27, under the designation P.310, and of the
P.305 with two Avco Lycoming ALF502s, are at a standstill. Fokker-VFW says that
the costs of the former were prohibitive (it would have been a direct competitor
for the DHC Dash 7) and the jet-powered aircraft would be uncomfortably close to
the VFW 614.

Yes GTX, I must agree!
Singapore has an uncanny way of achieving maximum and common sense approach to its defence and getting great bang for it's bucks!
I think it's a pity that our Defence Force don't adopt this type cost-effective aircraft to 'supplement' ("Not Replace"!!) the new P-8's that their forking a ridiculous amount of money for!
But then again we too have started down the sad road of abiding to our own version of the 'Military Industrial Complex' :(

Thanks, TomS for answering my question. I don't support there are any pictures/drawings?

Out of curiosity, does anyone have any cost $$$ figures that Fokker might have proposed in its sales pitches, in terms of how much the Maritime Enforcer / Maritime Enforcer Mk 2 was estimated to cost in comparison to the likes of the Lockheed P-3C Orion??

F-27 MS: military rear loader variant of the F-27, proposed 1961. Brochure can be found in this thread.
F-27-300M Troopship: military cargo variant, 9 operated by RNLAF from 1960.

The 300M is a freighter with sliding doors, 162 x 117 cm, used for para droppings, and a front cargo door that hinges upward.
Strengthened floor.
