"Makaka" glider was designed by N. Anoshchenko (young AS Yakovlev was his helper).

Eleanora A. Anoschenko - granddaughter of the first red pilot Nikolai Dmitrievich Anoschenko - uncovered the mystery associated with the unusual name of the "Macaca" glider, which took the prize in the competition in Koktebel. The answer turned out to be very interesting: while the father of Eleanora - Anoschenko Alexander Nikolayevich - was only one year, and the then existing tradition of giving children a nickname - he was called at home "macaques". And in honor of his son Nikolai called his glider.

OKA-38 never was Shmel (("Bumblebee").
It was "Aist" = "Stork"

Interesting. I always figured that the Aist name was only a nickname to evoke the German Fi 156 Storch, but was never officially allocated...

A new topic has been created in the Early Projects section for the OKA-38:

List updated.

Here is a little poster I made with available profile views for Antonov's pre-war gliders.

Great stuff AM, thanks.

I've updated the list once more and removed a couple of idiocies on my part (such as mistaking the Russian "N" for the English "H"... :-[ )

Here is a set of profiles from spaceavia.ru which I've organized in one plate. It shows the first four non-glider types developed by Antonov.
The designations N°2 to N°4 are well-known. Designation "N°1" is speculative but highly probable given the dates.
Of course the different aircraft are not to scale...

Thanks a lot AM! Keep in mind however that this topic is only about the early Antonov designations.

All An- and modern day designations will soon have a separate topic.

Dear Stargazher2006 and you prokomentiruete this document, there is also the designation OKA-21 (OKA-XXI) but it is a meta model and not a glider?

A-17 : Glider design project

In the January 2014 issue of Aviatsia Vreyma there was a photo of the wind tunnel model of the A-17 glider from the early 1970's. This was described as the A-17 project for a rocket glider drone.

I think the glider was designed for Antonov by B.H. Krasnorutskogo and A.F. Samolenko.

In Aviatsia Vreyma 2015-5, there is a two page article describing the design as a missile carrier glider with a V-tail.

The article was accompanied by a piece of artwork by Oleg Kalinina showing the A-17 with a definite cockpit inferring it was manned.

Does any member have any more details (my Russian is not good enough to translate the body of the text).

It is necessary to wait for the next issue of the magazine which will be the end of the article and the scheme (perhaps) a glider.
While the following information in short: /sorry, automatic translation
At its own initiative in the beginning of 1971, General Designer OK Antonov proposed the creation of a rocket glider to overcome water, marsh, mountain and other obstacles in conducting special operations troops. The glider must be single, with armored cab to protect the pilot from small arms fire, a simple structure. It assumed his one-time use, and therefore required a low cost structure.
According to General Designer, the glider must be scheme "flying wing" with the reverse sweep/FSW, pilot in a prone position. By the way I tell Antonov, it was clear that he had long cherished and detail all the nuances of making and using the rocket a glider. We felt that this is one of his unrealized ideas since the WWII.
Later it was decided to build a glider usual schemeю Lead designer on "product A-17" was appointed to the Order of BN Krasnorutsky. A-17 - it is an internal, factory designation of development, to the outside world about the glider was called "RPS" (a rocket Carrier soldiers).
The design of a glider - the simplest. The wing and tail have decided to make of the self-foaming foam - polyurethane with a simple power set.
Starting solid propellant engines (booster and marching) must be electrically from the onboard battery.
Also considered (as an alternative) used as a main engine piston motor bike, but this version of the abandoned.
Glider pilots must be prepared in an accelerated program glider fighter in the summer or winter uniform, in helmets and with an AK-47. After landing, he was able, without leaving the armored cabin, firing a machine gun Straight ahead and to the sides. Automatic flight fixed on the detachable lid within the cab so that its bore opening out at the left side. If necessary, during the flight the pilot can fire the machine with your left hand.
...To be continued

Great find my dear Cy-27,

and nice Info my dear Borovik.

From kryl'ya Rodine 2021-3,

instead off open new topic.
