After many threads on the subject of the Fleet Air Arm and its attempts in the late 50s to the early 60s to get new planes and carriers I have come to the conclusion that what was needed was a new build carrier learning the lessons of the successful Hermes and operating a multi role aircraft of the same weight and handling on deck as the Vickers Scimitar.

What would such a plane look like? The best British efforts of the time were the Buccaneer and the Vickers 583 (minus its vstol engines).

Any designers out there care for a bash!

AFAIK, Supermarine still built aircraft under its own name, but principally they already belonged to
Vickers Armstrong.
Why not use the type 556 all-weather fighter as a basis for a multi-role aircraft ? Comes as close to
the Scimitars characteristics as possible and has a 2-men crew and room for a larger radar.

Thanks for posting the drawing and info. I suppose that with the pressure to keep up with the US and the advanced nature of the Buccaneer this aircraft was a non starter. It is a shame because it would have matched a Hermes sized replacement for the RN carrier force and been within the resources of the UK ( a sort of British Etendard).
