A really quite silly question. Last week I watched Independence Day 2. In it Cold Fusion bombs were used by Earth Forces. I understand the basis that cold fusion is a nuclear reaction achieved at around room temperature and producing less nuclear waste. But what would the advantage be in nuclear weapon?

Apologies and thanks in equal measure.

Re: Cold Fusion

For the movie ID2 is pure technobabble

At German novel series Perry Rhodan, they try to explain the Cold Fusion with Muon-catalyzed fusion
Muons are unstable subatomic particles. it can do a catalyzed reaction with a deuteron with a Tritium Atom into nuclear fusion.
and that at room temperature, sadly this only theoretical, because the life time of Muon is around 2.2 microsecond
the authors correct that problem, with adapting the Univers of Perry Rhodan, that Muon can with technical help for longer life time.
