British LO/FOAS FOA FCAC

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3-UvAyYd4g

I came accross this video I thought it might be of some interest.

Seems full scale to me: I calculated a fuselage length between 62 and 67 feet using the people as reference.

Combined we can get a precise side view from this video ! ;)

Maybe they were thinking of something exotic like conformal antennas in the leading
edges or fuselage sides ?

Remember that this was never meant to be a production design. It was a technology demonstrator, so there was no need to incoroporate every feature of an operational aircraft.

If I assumed this was an RCS model...

  • I might assume that the video shows the model moving closely behind an RCS measurement mounting pole at 2:40...
  • I might also assume that the hangar that the model enters at the end of the video is actually the retractable hanger which usually covers the RCS pole...
  • The end result of this rampant speculation is a thought that some RCS measurements are being done on quite an old model of an aircraft that BAe are not going to build...
I could speculate as to why this might be desirable, but I imagine I have embarrassed myself enough already

Great find. Thanks for posting it up!

Triton, It does doesn't it? It doesn't look quite big enough to be full size though. I wonder if that's a 2/3rds scale model?
I reckon it's full size, check out the latest footage - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upQ7fdhpAj4

Sold on Ebay a while ago
looks like a professionally built model that's 'escaped' from the Factory, I've got a Typhoon and a Tornado model that have probably been 'liberated' from the same place.

The engine exhaust nozzles looks different from the older pictures of replica???

I know what with the hype being the F-35 is the last manned fighter to be built, supposedly this RCS model is leading the way for another BAe manned fast jet?

Cheers

I've got some BAE promotional material for sale on ebay, including FOAS http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=231186386412&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT

Just been reading through some of the comments on this thread and I just want to say how impressed I am by the quality and consistency of knowledge displayed by this forums' members. I'd say this is one of the best Aviation forums I've been a member of so far. I've yet to encounter a negative remark or any trolling (which is a very rare thing indeed these days!) Keep up the good work!!!!!!!

Hi,

I wonder if diamond wings were a big thing in 1990s/noughties UK stealth designs?

What I love about the BAE designs are that they are different to everyone else's. It's not your standard LM clone work and really shows that it was/is their own research rather than piggybacking off of the accepted wisdom.

Yes, It would be interesting to see this model from the front, or even in higher resolution! Maybe if anyone is over at Farnborough and has time on their hands?....

The diamond wing above bears a passing resemblance to NASA's SHARC, actually.

Replica is slowly coming into the light in the form of the Turkish T-FX it seems:

http://airrecognition.com/index.php/archive-world-worldwide-news-air-force-aviation-aerospace-air-military-defence-industry/global-defense-security-news/global-news-2017/may-bis/3453-idef-2017-turkey-progressing-towards-tf-x-next-gen-fighter-jet-development.html

The image shown is apparently that of a BAE model displayed on their stand this week (as oppose to the RCS test model we have seen)

It is still upside down, but if nothing else, the image is from a new angle as far as I can tell and despite the press embargo in the UK (due to the impending election), the suggestion is that the T-FX could represent a future project for the RAF as much as Turkey.

No, BAe TFX proposal is Raptor-like concept (also shown as render at BAe booth at #IDEF17)

Flateric, there is a lot of confusion over the imagery so if there is a more concrete image you can post I would be very grateful.

Do you think the Replica style image is not from the show then?

I can't post right now due to (c) issues. Replica photo is from IDEF as well though.

Ok thanks.

It looks like it is a photo of Replica because it still has the same golden panels within the cockpit that were evident on Replica's last public rollout.

Because IT IS photo of Replica.
