Boeing oblique wing commercial jet transport aircraft

After some investigation into the cited source (Roskam J., “What drives unique configurations?”, SAE Technical paper series
881353, Aerospace Technology Conference and Exposition, Anaheim, CA, Oct 3-6 1988) which included nothing on oblique wing aircraft, I think that this is actually the Lockheed design found in: NASA, An Analytical Study for Subsonic Oblique Wing Transport Concept, Bradley, E. That oblique, swivelling wing started withMesserschmitt sketches during World War 2. Messerschmitt never built a prototype, but they did propose both biplane and high-wing monoplane variants.
The goal was a simplified way to vary wing-sweep in flight.

During the 1980s, NASA Dryden commissioned Burt Rutan’s Scaled Composites to build a single-seater, proof of concept which flew 79 times between 1979 and 1982, but encountered nasty roll-pitch coupling.
