as I know non of other companies entered this contest,but I don't think so,take example;
the Folland had a project in same period,also Miles firm;

The spec. was probably written around the DH design rather than being put out to tender. There do not appear to have been any other submissions, certainly not from Folland, as this company did not yet exist, or Miles, who were still a small company building mainly single-engine aircraft
