According to some source in 1970'-1980' (if I remember correctly) Argentinian Army try to create a new light tank by putting French AMX-13 turret on Austrian SK-105 Kurassier chassis (Funny enough the SK-105 Kurassier turret is based on AMX-13 turret). The project has been canceled (Again if I remember correctly).

Is anyone have any more information on this tank?

Thank

That was the projeto VC SK 105 Patagón meant as a "domestic" replacement for the Argentine AMX-13. And yes it is weird since the Kurassier's JT-1 turret was a licensed version of the FL-12 anyway.

They have since wisely cancelled this project. Why spend money on something that's obsolete from day 1? Better use the money to at least upgrade the TAMs.

Here you've got a movie on the Patagon light tank.

Well, the target wasnt to create a "new" tank but to get a relative inexpensive vehicle for the fire support role. And yes in tank vs tank combat the Steyr has no chance all, but in argentina is used more as an mobile protected gun to boost the infantry platoon and escort the VCI TAM VCTP wich had only a 20mm Rheinmetall gun..
Aniway the Patagon isnt entirely a prototype, my undestanding is at list 10 or 12 were made and are inservice
