A future version of the Super Étendard?

Good question, either they are looking for a way to extend the service life of the aircraft past retirement by the Marine Nationale for potential re-sale to another state or they are taking measures to cover a shortfall in Rafale M numbers for whatever reason. Certainly an odd move for an aircraft due for retirement in the very near future unless its for the Argentine Navy !

Is it also possible that the MN are planning to maximize the number of Rafale M's that they can use as 'pure' fighters?

Would this be a hedge against a potential Rafale shortfall that may be caused should the production line be closed? Just a thought...

Looks like it came to nothing: http://foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com/super-etendard-attack-jets-make-their-last-carrier-cata-1765662230

They may have been trying to sound out India or (more likely) Brazil. With an M88 and another avionics upgrade, it would make some sense.

I think you are confused. There is no problem with the French side being referred to as "they". They are the subject of the article.

So in this forum you are "we" and the others, non-anglo-saxons, are "they"? Interesting...

Stop reading too much into simple statements.

Apparently I write Francophobic books.

Bof!
