A ship that always fascinated me as I leafed through Janes Fighting Ships over the years was the frigate "Aconit".

This futuristic looking ship was originally intended to be a class of five.
French escort ships make interesting comparisons with the RN.
Aconit was the closest thing I can find to a Leander.
 
Strangely I also had a fascination with this.
I think the lack of helicopter facilities were a major issue .. but I personally also suspect the propulsion choice and in particular the single shaft/screw would have been issues, although this is my opinion.
I think the hull type of the later Georges Leagues was influenced by this vessel?
