I am looking to acquire a book that gives a detailed account of the history of the A-10, specifically the aircraft's conception, design and development though some in-service history would be a bonus. The more technical the better.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

This series looks like a bunch of kiddie books, because of the large format, but they do have a lot of technical information in them:

Also the Warbird Tech volume:

Those books are great;

- Fairchild-Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II (Crowood Aviation Series)
- Republic's A-10 Thunderbolt II: A Pictorial History

I haven't seen this particular book, but based on the table of contents, the new Haynes manual may be worth considering:

You presumably have this already - it's a pretty good summary.

Dear,
in the link posted by PaulMM (Overscan) there are some configuration about other projects submitted.
In particular I noticed this one by Boeing: do you have more info about that?
Regards.

Only small bits on the Boeing-Vertol design though.
