First build of the 1:72 scale DH117 by test builder (kitbasher at whatifmodeller forum) going well - highlighter a change needed to the canopy width but good to see it coming together in real life

Having had no bench and spent a year watching other people build up my kits I finally made a start on one (Miles M.52) with a minimal toolkit. Going ok but just got to the point where I need to buy some filler and paint to proceed

Digital progress also made on the Vickers Swallow - 3 view drawings are pretty contradictory so I’m using them and the patents as a general guide but referring back and forth to Barnes Wallis’s photos as having the deciding vote

Some moving around of 1s and 0s and we have the attached

- Engines shrunk to 2/3 of the previous size.
- Rear wheels and bays moved as far back and outboard as I can without fouling the wings.
- Nosewheel moved to front of the bay to retract rearwards

A fair bit of guesswork and interpretation in it where the sources differ but overall I think it looks the part - will try a print at 1/144 and see how we fare from there

More progress on the AW.171 - most of the major bits are there. Bit of finessing needed then organising the print parts

Are the AW.171 and Vickers Swallow avail in 1/72?
AW.171 is intended for 1/72 so once I’ve tried it out and coerced someone into test building it, yes

Vickers Swallow, the wings are a bit too long to fit into the printer but I’ve had a cunning plan and think with a couple more splits it should be doable. Chalk that one down as a “definitely maybe”

New print of the day is a 1/72 Heinkel Lerche - I’m not into the Wunderwaffe or rotorcraft but Nigel Heath was so this was done as a contribution to a tribute group build

Et voila!

The AW.171 parts at 1/72 with options for compressed or unloaded legs and open/closed louvres

Swallow is a bit of a monster at 56cm span but might see it at 1/72 in the next week or so

Only just seen this thread, some seriously great models of unique subjects! Been using my printers for a while to try and improve old kits never had the nerve to create a whole kit yet. this had definitely given me a positive push. Keep these Aircraft Project models coming. Very inspiring ty!

For the TSR2?
Yes, that’s the folded fin variant I tried to do

Been using my printers for a while to try and improve old kits never had the nerve to create a whole kit yet.
You might find it easier - getting the fit right for add on parts to an existing kit is tricky but if you’ve control over the whole thing then it is sometimes easier

I recommend what-if subjects as well as the vagueness of general layout drawings means no-one can sneeringly rivet count

Do the wings and nacelles have pivots on the 1/72 scale model Alistair ? So it can be displayed in various sweep angles.

I see the fuselage bits have top and bottom halves, are the wings the same. I was thinking maybe some internal linkage could be made so everything moved at the same time when spreading the wing if they had pivots.

They have pivots points with cylindrical sockets but I don’t know how well they’ll move once built yet

I did look at an internal linkage but all the mechanisms I drafted were impeded by the wheel bay. Possibly doable but I haven’t figured out how yet

AW.171 in model form progress (& looking like a very cool spear point)

AW.169 in digital form progress (now looking more plane-like)

Not at all genuine but cobbled together for my own amusement

Faked Schlieren images of the Miles M.52 and SR P.187
