Perseverance Rover

They put the Atlas on the pad and fuel it a month before launch?!?

Ah, on further research, they do a fueling test well before scheduled planetary launches so they have time to fix any issues before the launch window. They will defuel and roll back after the test. That makes more sense, I guess.

I assume you are referring to a WDR (Wet Dress Rehearsal)?

Let's hope that the Mars Helicopter will fly a lot further than the Wright Brothers did when they flew their Wright Flyer almost one hundred and thirteen years ago.

Yep. Which apparently hit a snag.

Personally, I prefer the short explanation.

United Launch Alliance repaired the issue it discovered with the Atlas V rocket's Centaur upper stage for the launch of NASA's #Mars2020 rover Perseverance, sources tell me.

The launch date could move up as much as a day or more from the current target of no earlier than July 30, the sources said, but that is yet to be determined. NASA & ULA are at least more confident that the mission will happen within this Mars conjunction window.

That is disappointing that NASA has had to postpone the launch of Perseverance, though it is good news that ULA have located the problem. Role on July 30.

It's a pricey mission. You don't want it to (literally) blow in your face.
I am all in for the slow pace.

So true TomcatViP, I would not like Perseverance to blow up on the launch pad, better being safe than sorry.

True, but if they miss this opportunity, it's going to get a lot more expensive while they pay the mission support teams to stay around for a couple of years until the next conjunction in 2022.

That is why I would like Perseverance to get launched to Mars at the end of this month than in 2022, also China have their rover getting launched to Mars as well.

The @NASAPersevere rover embodies the @NASA — and the American — spirit of overcoming challenges.

Like every mission before, our Mars rover will face difficulties, and it’s going to make amazing discoveries. We will always persevere: youtu.be/6qA9iaAUo8k

Well said. Proud to report that she has just arrived at the VIF for mate to the Mighty Atlas, Perseverance’s ride to the Red Planet.

Are we really witnessing a drag race to Mars with both Chinese and US design on as standby waiting for the green light?

If you want to send a vehicle to Mars with current technology this is the best time for a couple of years. Lots of stuff is going right about now (UAE Hope, the Chinese mission, and the US Perseverance Rover.).

It's a shame that Europe had to cancel the launch of its Mars Rover due to the Covid-19 virus, because that would have meant that there would have been four missions at Mars instead of three.

It wasn’t just that but also testing of the parachutes for the landing on Mars.
