Title: Daniel Uhr artwork
Post by: Geist on January 11, 2013, 01:57:38 pm
Hi
I'm new here and I would like to know your impression about my works.
Generally I do my illustrations using a vector software (e.g. Corel Draw or Illustrator) to do lines and structure and  photoshop to paint it, but sometimes I do them using Rhino with Flamingo.
I'll post both.
For now I'll leave with my last work, a Gladiator, done in Corel and Photoshop.
Regards,

Daniel Uhr

now a work done in Rhino is a Condor II
this postcard was promotional piece for  the book titled

Lufwaffe Confidential - Fundamentals of Modern Aeronautical Design

The Condor II is in it but in another perspective

Welcome!

Wow, the Gladiator is really beautiful!
I'm not sure I can say why. It has to do with the aspect of the subject
shown (a side view would be less dramatic for example) and the background
being in some kind of harmony. Very nice!

The Condor II is more of a simple side view. Cool airplane, but less dramatic.
Nice work though but I prefer the Gladiator.

It will be really cool if you take a shot at whatever concepts from here interest you!

Welcome again!

Thanks for the welcome and for the comments.
I do prefer the Gladiator too

The point of Condor II is that it was created just to illustrate itself (once it never flew) and because the only existent illustration of it reminds  in somehow the Caravelle, at this way it couldn't figure out in the book. So I rebuild it all.

Soon I'll post others works
Thanks again
Regards

Great work, all of them !
Actually, my favourite is the Condor II, the first picture you've posted of it. It
comes very near to a real photo, whereas the Gladiator ) more looks like a
painting. Great, too, I just prefer the photostyle.

As Argentine the picture of Condor 2 is very appealing to me. Congrats for the illustration Daniel. Do you work for the book Japanese Secret project too?

Yes!
I did some works for it, like Shinryu (action and 3vies), Ohka bi-place (action and 3vies), among others.
I cant remember exactly how many I did, but certainly I had a lot of work to do them  :)

Concerning to the Condor II, in the book (Luftwaffe Confidential), there are other projects done in Argentina that is shown in it.

I'm especially thrilled by the fake Condor II postcard. Exactly my kind of stuff! Hope you can do more imaginary documents like that in the future.

This framework was done and sent as a gift to say thanks to someone who had kindly colaborated with us, in the book project, writing the forewords - Capt Eric Brown - RAF's CO of "Enemy Flight" at the end of WWII. (He flight-tested 53 German aircraft like Me 262, Me 163, He 162, Ar 234, Ta 154, among others)

For luck and coincidence the framework arrived almost at his birthday's day

He was very enthusiastically with it, what made me glad and proud.

Hi Daniel,
Good to see you on here! For everyone else, in addition to the books and other illustrations on here, Daniel also did the main illustration on our latest International Resin Modellers Association IRMAKit No. 5CTA Heliconair HC-I Convertiplano! It came out really great and Daniel also helped with the final kit design since his illustrations could show us in 3-D the overall design details. Thanks again, Daniel!
Best regards,

I dunno.  The last time a B-70 was in a formation flight, it didn't work out well.

The number two XB-70A had 5-deg wing dihedral whereas the number XB-70A does not - also No. 2 had a black radome and No. 1 does not. I wrote two books, two articles on the Valkyrie and I know a few things about them. -SP

More than I, for sure. Congratulation for all the books!

I know you're author of many books, even though, I can imagine how difficult is to do it, I mean start from 0, gather the info, organize it, do the design book, corrections,...and worse to have money to publish it or to who knows find some publisher who wants to do it as a sponsorship.

Recently I did my first book with a friend, it was not easy due to the whole process involved in doing it.

About the XB 70 - Any link where I could take those information and also their 3views?
So, I will be able to compare the two prototypes and check their visual differences.
Regards
Daniel

Beautiful artwork throughout this thread.

If I may, I would love to see a formation of B-70's using the AV1 design.  IMHO, the dihedral of AV2 spoiled the lines of an extremely beautiful aircraft.  AV1 possesses a look of raw power and speed.

Thank you for posting your art.

After a "long time", I'm back.
I know I still owe you a XB 70, but in this meantime I had to do some commissioned works and besides it I'm looking for a new pc, the one I was using is out of work.

Nice artwork, but I believe something's desperately wrong about that Kfir's proportions...

I think the issue is that the Kfir's "telephoto-ed." There's very little parallax distortion (although there's foreshortening) and if the apparent distance is not great enough, it seems too small in front, too big at rear. The smaller you view the picture, the more normal it will look. I've seen some of Mr. Uhr's works that have lots of parallax, to dramatic effect!

Sorry, Daniel--I only saw YOUR  post just now. Can you have too much parallax distortion? Maybe it's partly a matter of personal taste. I seem to have a high tolerance for sleek aircraft getting in my face. I like all your work, though, whatever the degree of "immediacy."

Hi Ian.
Thank you once more for the comment.
I'm glad to know that you like my work. :)

I know that this kind of style that I adopted is not largely appreciated.
It gives, sometimes, too much impact/dramaticity and people (in general) tend to choose less dramatic (at least, that what it seems to me) :) .

I, as can be seen in my latest works , prefer it under a impressive look. Reflect of my experience in the aeronautical area and my perception of the aircrafts.

As you said - it's a matter of personal taste.
Best regards
Thank you once more (Btw, apologise me for the delay in answering you)
Daniel Uhr

P.S. Whenever you or any one else wants to do a comment about my work, feel free to do it. They are always welcome, since it is grounded and contributes to the growth. :)

Unfortunately no.
Until this work, I had no idea of its existence.
The few infos I received, I can not post it. Sorry.
I think the way to gain more info about it is acquiring the book.

Thanks for the explanation, Daniel.
Is it so secret that you can't even tell a period and a role ? like bomber 1955s or recce 1960s ?

And do you already know what is the planned title for this upcoming book?

Not soooo secret ;)
It is a project from late 60's. Probably an interceptor, as written by author.
For me could also be a Spy plane due to its configuration - two engines that looks like the used in SR 71.

I really like the B-52 illustration Daniel!  What do you use to create your terrain, if I may ask?  The terrain in your illustrations is beautiful.  What part of the world is the 52 supposed to be flying over?  (Apologies if I missed that in a description earlier).

Hi Zizi
Thank you for the comment! :)

To learn photoshop, better how to use it to paint is a great thing - I'm suspect to give this advice :)

It takes time and a lot of pratice. It worth's every minute you spend on it!
Generally I do the lines in another software such as Corel Draw or Illustrator then I open it in Photohop to paint it.

There are few more steps - for sure. But what I'm trying to tell you is that I don't do the struct in PS but out - it is easier (for me).

I think so, I guess I have already painted BV 212, 215, 213, 208 and the 209 - not necessarily profiles, some in action.

Some I can show, some not (they are part of a project). Soon I'll post the BV 215 for you ;)
Best wishes,
Daniel

Usually with width = 56cm (height proportional) or a little bigger with 300dpi in RGB mode.

If we want of something bigger, it would be those Arado fighters. Their colour profiles are very small in the bookazine, especially compared to their original size! :) ;)

In fact, even the images I post here are smaller than the original. Some are five times bigger. :)
I do this to make easier the paint. Regarding to the published profiles, they must be smaller - there is a space restriction.
Even if there were only my work in a double page it would be a little smaller than the original.

There are two ways to see it in its final size - digitalfile or in a framework. Unfortunately it is not a good thing to post it in full size - It could be used by third without authorization - a headache, for sure!

Daniel, in Luftwaffe Confidential there is an illustration of the 109 with wing fences. What sort of information was that drawing based on, like actual plans from Mtt or just a written description.

I ask because they are far more inboard than I would have expected, and seeing doubled fences like that is also surprising. The only illustration I've ever seen of them before has the fences starting aft of the leading edge.

Also are the fences angled inward off vertical somewhat or is that just a trick of the perspective.
Title: Re: Daniel Uhr artwork
Post by: Geist on April 15, 2018, 02:46:23 pm
Hi Sienar
I did this illustration in 2007 for the first book version, since than has benn reused, and as far as I remember, Claudio, with whom I did the book, gave me a wing plant copy where it showed the fence position as well as it's shape and proportion.

Certainly they were not angled inward (vertical position), it's just a trick of the perspective.

Best wishes,
Daniel
