Hi,

I hope my dear Apophenia with his magic touch,to make a good list about this
company and included the SIAI post WWII aircraft and Projects.

For Pre-1945 period,I can add;

S.7 was a long-range recce flying boat
S.15 was a flying boat,maybe a Project,I will check
S.24 was a twin-engined bomber/recce flying boat
S.60 was a well know bomber Project
SM.94 was a twin-engined attack aircraft Project
SM.96 was a single seat fighter Project
SM.97 was a four engined transport Project
SM.99 was a two/three engined Transport Project studied

I have Hesham ... although my list adds few new types to AM's Word document.

A word on the 'missing' S-1 to S-6 sequence. I suspect that, for internal use, these were retroactively applied designations for SIAI's licensed FBA Type C/Type H flying boats, Savoia's licensed Farman biplanes, and any planned/unbuilt derivatives.

First the usual corporate stuff: SIAI and Savoia began as separate companies but both involved entrepeneur Domenico Lorenzo Santoni. The name Savoia is after the royal House of Savoia -- not after DTAM (Direzione Tecnica Aviazione Militare) officer, Maggiore Ingegnere Umberto Savoia, as is often reported.

The two firms were merged shortly after Savoia was formed in 1915. The designation style begins with a simple S.xx form (with the 'S' presumably standing for Savoia). In 1937, the firm was rebranded as SIAI-Savoia Marchetti and adopted a new desig. style S.M.xx (although both S.xx and S.M.xx styles remained in widespread use for some time).

In form, designations are seen with periods, dashes, and spaces. For continuity, I have stuck with periods. Savoia-Marchetti designations will be found as S.M.xx and SM.xx. I have stuck with the original two period style. This changes for the postwar SIAI-Marchetti where the single period (or dash) are seen almost universally. Here, I have used the SM.xx form.

Postwar designations varied between the 'SM.1xx' and 'S.2xx' series as well as the orphan 'SF; and 'SV' designations. The 'SF' designations followed Stelio Frati's numbering system, not SIAI's. AFAIK, the 'SV' is for 'SIAI Verticale'.

One further designation abnormality is the SM-1019. The Model SM-1019 was a turboprop version of the Cessna Model 330 Bird Dog for the Italian Armed Forces built under license by SIAI-Marchetti. The designation numbering fits the Cessna sequence not SIAI.

What an excellent piece of research and collation, Apophenia , many thanks.

Amazing and Excellent work as usual my dear Apophenia,

and also I can add;

Savoia-Pomilio SP.1,SP.2,SP.3 & SP.4 were a two seat recce and bomber biplanes;

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savoia-Pomilio_SP.1
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savoia-Pomilio_SP.2
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savoia-Pomilio_SP.3
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savoia-Pomilio_SP.4

Savoia-Pomilio SP.5 was a further development designation,remained a Project only

SM.94 (first or second use) was a bomber developed from SM.84
SM.107 was a low-wing twin engined medium transport aircraft Project,powered by two
P & W R-1830 S1C3-G piston engines
SM.109 was a high-wing four engined military/civil cargo transport aircraft Project,powered
by four P & W R-2180 engines
SM.115 Canguro was a jet transport Project as I think;
http://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,639.msg132927.html#msg132927

S.220 Sirius was a S.205,built under licence by Waco in USA,and powered by one 220 hp
Franklin engine
F.250 was a Frati design,built by SIAI,it was a low-wing three seat all-metal light aircraft

Thanks folks. Hesham's details have been added.

Hesham: Note that the Savoia-Pomilio series are unrelated to SIAI Savoia -- being the designs of the DTAM's Maggiore Ingegnere Umberto Savoia and the designer from Fabbrica Aeroplani Ing. O. Pomilio - Tenente Ottorino Pomilio.

The S.220 Sirius was already listed but I omitted the Frati F.250 (the latter having been built by Aviamilano Costruzione Aeronautiche not by SIAI proper).

OK my dear Apophenia,

but as I know from many sources,the Savoia-Pomilio SP series was the beginning of
SIAI series,and he completed from S.6.

hesham said:

Ah, but they weren't. Many sources do indeed connect Umberto Savoia (or Savoja) with SIAI but they are mistaken.

As noted above, the 'Savoia' associated with SIAI was after the royal House of Savoy, not Umberto Savoia. Remember that Magg. Savoja was an Army officer working with the Direzione Tecnica Aviazione Militare - he was not in industry. The same applies to Ten. Pomilio. Together they produced aircraft designs for DTAM which were then assigned to industry for mass production.*

The original confusion seems to stem from Savoia-Pomilio aircraft being constructed by SIA. This acronym for the Società Italiana Aviazione was easily confused with that of SIAI ... possibly partly explaning why SIA changed its name to Fiat in 1918.

Hello!

Here is the Pinterest page with a number of Savoia-Marchetti factory drawings, including S.70 high speed combat twin-boomer, SM.91 and SM.92 multipurpose combat aircraft.
As well other, more common, Savoia, FIAT and Macchi types presented.

Pictures are protected by watermarks, so I attached small-size screen captions.

Enjoy! ;)

This Czech Museum source has, as is all too common, conflated SIAI (Savoia-Pomili) with SIAI Savoia. As explained in reply #10, SIA (later Fiat) is completely unrelated to SIAI Savoia.

For the record, the SIA 7B was the well-known 1917 recce biplane. The SIA SP 3 was the last of the AMI's standard Savoia-Pomili twin-boomed pusher recce biplane series (SIA SP 1, Sp 2, and SP 3). But, again, no connection whatsoever with SIAI Savoia.
