Magnificent Mavericks tells the story of the creative military and civilian team at the Naval Ordnance Test Station, China Lake and Pasadena, from 1948 to 1958. The book encompasses an era China Lake retirees look back on as “the fun years.” Described are the vibrant life of the community, the colorful characters, the ranges and facilities, as well as fascinating stories (including the politics) of such successful weapons as Sidewinder, Polaris, ASROC and Mighty Mouse. Liz spent the last 10 years of her 24-year career at China Lake doing research and preliminary writing on the book.
