Sure, but please start a new topic on this. BTW, there was a 404a and a 504, too. But for those you'll have to wait Italian Secret Projects.

May by you are right my dear Skybolt, there was Ambrosini SAI-503,an improved version
of the SAI-403, as single seat fighter, and may be the design was SAI-504.

I'm surely right, since I' reading the original report .... The 504 was an evolution of the 404a, which was an evolution ot the 404. They all were at least 5 years too late.

Well, Sai 404 was designed in august 1942, for engine Isotta-Fraschini with Hp 1200 -1400 . It was excepted for a speed of 670 km/h , two gun Safat of 12,7 mm and two Mauser of 20 mm .Abandoned for situation political-military of country !
( i hope to had translated good from italian ) - the magazine of this information is AEREI of Delta Editrice , n.11 - novembre 1995
In future book about Italian Secret Projects i hope to find more about this !

SAi-404 was a sound design by Ing. Rossi, a very humble and serious designer. BUT: 1) The design was inspired by the Bf-109, down to the methods of construction, six years later; 2) The max speed was only calculated speed (there aren't clues of any serious wind tunnel test on models), and 3) the power rating of the Zeta engine and its real behavious in real operation conditions were very wishful thinking. Starting the development of just another single engine fighter in late 1942 in a very peripheral company would have been an unmindful waste of resources. Italy had already three flying fighters in the same class, even well varied (C.205 better at mid to low alttudes; G.55 and Re.2005 better at high altitudes). We needed numbers by the end of 1942.

Hasan, your link is not complete. With the link you gave, I need to search 216 separate pages.

Should be SAI-Ambrosini S.404, S.504, and S.307 projects ;)

Rough translation with a bit of editing:

Even the prolific Ing. Sergio Stefanutti, designer of the SAI-Ambrosini S.207 family and of the promising S.404/504 projects with Zeta engine, offered an unidentified "Aeroplano da caccia stratosferico". That 'stratospheric fighter' was possibly later designated S.307. With a 1,000 hp Zeta RC.110 engine, this fighter would have had similar performance to the Serie 5. However, the Stefanutti design would remain on paper. Incidentally, the preliminary projects of the S.404 and S.405 family was the result of work by Ing. Lelio Rossi - at that time, one of the managers of SAI-Ambrosini's technical office.

Speaking of the S.404 and S.405 family, it should be remembered that these would have been Series 4 fighters, since they would be powered by the Isotta-Fraschini Zeta engine.

These projects, of which drawings dated 14 August 1942 are found, aimed at solutions for simplifying construction and reducing costs. There were to be three different configurations: S.404 with a 10.80 m wingspan, S.404A with 11.40 m span, and S.504 with 11.80 m wings. The program was carried out with a low profile, since the company was meant to be mainly engaged with the S.207 and S.403. In any case, the IF Zeta was never actually available. With the amistice, further development was suspended. [...]

Ing. Lelio Rossie (already mentioned with regard to the SAI-Ambrosini S.404 and S.405), went on to the technical office of Caproni in Taliedo (we do not know if that was in an official capacity or as an external consultant). In the company's documentation there is reference to his study of a jet fighter "with a Jumo 004 engine; in reality, the project seems to be the R.105, dated January 9, 1945, for which the R.2000 turboprop was considered. Rossi was killed on April 27, 1945 for political reasons and, as a result, there was no way to continue his projects.
