we had British spacesuit prototype and how they end in Movie and TV

but this beat them all

P Frankenstein and Sons Ltd. (which later became the Frankenstein Group Ltd),
was founded in 1854 and had a base at the Victoria Rubber Works in Newton Heath.

in 1960`s they made prototypes spacesuit for RAF
and in 1967 Space suit for Stanley Kubrick ‘2001: A Space Odyssey. !

Hi,

Super postings very interesting,
UK, Commonwealth Military Manned Space programme cancellation June 1960 before Labour/Wilson Government, suspects, Macmillan, Zuckerman and primary culprit Mountbatten?  That sort of Space Suit work is not done for fun by private companies and paid for by taxpayers money with out a real purpose

Following the lead, “The film depicts the 1960s astronaut space suit run-of-the-mill film prop spacesuits with a 1960s-type aqualung cylinder each instead of a NASA-type life support backpack”

Has anyone a picture of the Normalair Spacesuit life support back pack shown at Farnborough circa 1962?

Or a good picture of the Farnborough emergency standard wear skin suit and flexible “handbag” helmet for use on UK space stations or re-entry vehicles?

Not Space suit just under water breathing but did Cmd Crab use a carbon dioxide removal system at Gibraltar in WW2, submarine escape apparatus read/heard about it 1956 so could be wrong?

Once again super posting very interesting thread.

Thank you Michel for that interesting video clip. I had only seen still photographs of the Garrett AiResearch EX-1A hardsuit before and was wondering how flexible it was.

A good reference is Suiting Up For Space by Lloyd Mallan, 1971. Mostly American, it includes the XMC-2-ILC,  XMC-2-DC, prototype suit for the X-20 Dyna-Soar, plus wartime designs, a few German full pressure suits, and mention of British and Italian work.
