hello deno
from "aviation magazine" a long time ago :
The Alexeiev "I216" was a projet of 1946/47 derived from the "I 215"
whith 2 Derwent engines and 2 57m/m canons NS 37 OR
113P57 with 35 shells each
This projet was studies to counter the new American bomber Convair B36
but during trials the exessive recoil of this arms stopped the project.
Bye

I personally prefer the models with rear gunners. Given that pre-Korean had lower power/weight ratios, low g-limits, a tendency to high speed stalls and near-transonic but still limited speed ranges, it becomes clear that for a limited time between 1945-1955 a small surface area fighter with a rear gunner could have been very feasible. It is perhaps the only period in the history of air combat where a gunner equipped fighter might have worked.

It was the Alekseyev's I-212 that had a twin-gun rear turret. Here is its drawing:

Regards
Piotr

2 57m/m canons NS
Two variants of the arms were planned.
First: between floor pressurized cockpit and leading gear - 3 x N-37 (30 projectiles), or 6 x 23 mm.
Second: two guns 57мм or even two 75мм (NS-76) by OKB-16
Other projects by Alekseev :

Hi guys,

I do not often "get out" of my german WW2 preferance but I must say this stuff is pretty impressive. RThanks for sharing.

The first aircraft mentioned, the I-216 fields 2x76mm Nudelman-Suranov automatic cannons. It is depicted also at Yefim Gordon`s "Secret Soviet Projects - Fighters" published by Midland.

I, as Varvarin, am particularly interested in I-M-250 and I-M-108. Does the first boast a Dobrynin M 250? If so, neat cowling. Sure the second fields a Klimov Vk-108.

On cause four last projects I must repeat the phrase Deyno at the beginning initially this threads:

"... never heard of this !!

Any dates or timeframe given for this project !??

Thanks for posting."
Thanks again, for these 4 wonderful discoveries you made. ;)
Anatoliy.

Very interesting!

BTW, do you have any idea what engine/engines the I-218-2 (i.e. the jet-powered variant) had? I would like to know its dimensions and other data, including its planned armament. Does anybody know anything on that?

Best regards,
Piotr

Hi dear Borovik,

your pictures here are I-219 to I-221.

That numeration given by Hesham, to the best of my knowledge, was used by B. Gunston in his "The osprey encyclopeddia of russian aircraft 1875 - 1995" book.

Dear Borovik!
I have blueprints of those projects. With my great respect to dearest Hesham I can say - 219-221 numerations are invention))))))))))))
Very best regards

Hello everyones
I have found this aircraft in the book Soviet X-plane
This aircraft was the twin boom pushpull ground attacker or conventional jet attacker. There is also the conventional pushpull version that have similar layout to XB-42 mixmaster.I heve read that one prototype was built but it was not flown. It competitor is IL-20 also abandoned.THe I-219 also one of the I 218 variant but It wasn't built.
Enjoy! ;D

Sorry Piotr, its lack of attentiveness (noticed only now) :-[
"218" - Span -16,43m, length-13,88m, wing area-45,0m2, take-off weight of 9000kg, max. speed- 465km /h, range-1200km, engine-VD-251 (M-250) / Dobrynin, propeller AV-28 the diameter of 3,6 m.
"218-II" - Span -17,4m, length-16,5m, wing area-50,0m2, take-off weight 13000kg, max. speed-735km /h, range-1200km, engine -TR-3/Lyul 'ka or VK-1/Klimov
"218-III" - scale-18,4m, length-17,0m, wing area-55,0m2, take-off weight 12000kg, max. speed-504km / h, range-1300km, engine -M-250/Dobrynin

Armament underneath the fuselage could stoop down to 25-30 degrees.
Planned or 4xNR-23 (to 150 rounds per gun), or 2xN-37 (40), or 2xN-57 (30)
To defend the back-2x20mm gun with remote control ( "218" on the booms), ( "218-III" on the wing) (120)
In the fore part of the booms were placed on three rocket guns ORO-132, ( "218-II", "218-III" under the wing)
In the bomb bay could hang 6x100kg bombs or smaller in the appropriate quantities.
Under the fuselage provided accommodation bomb or torpedo weight to 1500kg. (in overload)

I read in Herbert Leonard's Docavia book "Les Chtourmoviks" that the I-218 was a project of 1947. Does anyone know the design date of the I-M-108?

From Kryl'ya Rodine 10/1993,

here is unknown variant to I-215 (for me) and a good comparison between most
of Alexeyev aircraft.

Typo. Instead of I-215 should be read I-211S
(from book - Alberto Trevisan "Storia ed Evoluzione dei Caccia Sovietici a Reazione,1945-1955"

By the way,

the Alexeyev I-210 was powered by two BMW 003 turbojet engines.

I confirm. Translated from the dedicated chapter of abovementioned book:

"A first configuration of the aircraft or, more likely, a contemporary proposal to the actually built version, appeared again with the engine nacelles arranged under the wing. It is likely to think, with respect to this proposal, that it was an emergency solution, which contemplated even the use of german turbojets in case of failure of the national programs. This version is cited unofficially as the I-210. However, not having reasonable grounds to believe that Lyul'ka would not have developed at least one of the two prototypes being tested at the bench, this hypothesis was discarded and began the construction of two copies of the variant known as I-211."

I'm sorry for the multiple short replies, but my brain turns on intermittently :-\ :-\ :-\

About the name of ground attack projects, I think that "220" and "221" are to be considered definitely wrong. My opinion is that Alekseyev always put the number 21 ahead of his projects (OKB-21), so they could be read as I-21/1, I-21/2, I-21/5 and so on. He was lucky enough not to go over the 219... Or they would become 2110, 2111... ;)

Most interesting contribution, Triton! In many ways it reminds me a pusher XP-58.

Do you happen to have any additional information/drawings/specifications for this beast? I'd love to see it and am sure others would, too.

With gratitude,
