Soviet COIN and light Shturmovik Projects

Smells like another Grunin project - have asked about at EAA forum.
 
Looks like a ROKS design. I have a similar type of pic with pull propellors. ROKS T-501 Strizh

I'm afraid this is completely wrong. The T-501 Strizh is an Aeroprogress-ROKS design that doesn't look anywhere near the plan you provide (see attachment). That particular image of yours which is falsely labeled as the Strizh is in fact an imaginary design of unknown origin (generally called the "OV-12") that has circulated on the web for a while. Also, Aeroprogress had several COIN designs of their own (including a design quite similar to an OV-10 with canards) which do not look like either of these designs.

What bugs me more is the fact that the picture displays a comment in Korean (under "HXGS", which is the forum name of the poster) and was posted on a Chinese site... ???

think, that folding wings are really useful for a COIN a/c. But there are experts here

I have overviewed the links that you provided to me before I post this topic, but I failed to find it, so I believed something was wrong, may be this paint was not a COIN a/c, perhaps it was just a light attacker.

In the FYJS website, there were two "hxgs" ID names, one was me, the other was his. if you read it carefully you would find a trick, the word "X" was english in my ID names and russian word "X" in his ID names. Certainly, many friends were confused about two ID names.

And again, things turns up upside down, as Grunin DB staff says it was real project, belonging to LVSh family of projects (Light Army Attack aircraft or Light Renewable Attack aircraft) meaning fast resurrection of production using off-the shelf parts from existing projects after nuke poke.

Grunin DB staff says it was - again - a real project, belonging to LVSh family.
 
Well - that is extremely interesting Flateric!

I wonder if there were any other designs for such contingencies (although the ability of industry to survive after the 1960s... well, decreased with proliferation...)

There are lots of details on this model that scream fake. For starters it could probably never take off or land without destroying the propellers. Which as a pusher are far aft of the centre of gravity and unprotected by any tail strike stopper. So as soon as the aircraft rotates bang the blades hit the ground. Then there is a wing fold break out of line with the actual break in the wing. Strangely space wing pylons. Rear seat windscreen that looks cool but wouldn’t provide rear seat occupant with any kind of view forwards or downwards when flying.

but are those a real; projects ?.
 
These projects and many other projects ( including those known to us as the ROS Aeroprogress : T -710 , 502, 712 , etc.) have been developed in the framework of LVSh / - light military attack or easily can be filled attack aircraft/ . Was such a doctrine that in case of war, attack aircraft must be recreated on the basis of which the element is available . There were projects with booths Su- 25, Su 25 UB , Mi-24 , with 2 cabins on the Ka-50 ( Ka-52 was not there ), etc. Therefore, images of different projects . Projects developed in KB Sukhoi , namely team/brigade №100-2 . Brigade Chief Arnold I. Andrianov and theme leader , Eugene P. Grunin .
 
I would love to see some of the other variants of these projects (especially the ones with the Mi-24 cockpit!)...

We should create a thread somewhere to try to list all Russian Shturmoviks sometime - at this rate it is getting hard to keep track of them all. :D
 
Sukhoi / Grunin Designs


A lot of these were based on components of existing aircraft, the initial thoughts of this was a wartime contingency. Most are Su-25 derived - many of these designs were started within Sukhoi's 100-2 team, by Grunin and others who later left to form their own company.

What are the time frame(s) on these designs? All from late 1990's or are some from earlier?
 
Thanks! I'm really stunned to see even more of these.

Two questions:
- Any idea what the under fuselage guns are (not the SPPU - but the three barrelled ones)?
- Many designs are depicted with R-77s but no acquisition radar (I assume it could be pod mounted like in the later Su-25s)?
 
Beautiful pictures Paul, especially the mi 24 derivatives. Do you know the purpose of the curious looking engine exhaust in the picture labeled T-780 12_167.jpg ?
