Argus Motoren Gesellschaft of Berlin-Reinickendorf was developing by the end of WW2 some high-powered aircraft engines, e.g. the As 403, As 404 and As 413.

The Argus As 403 was a H24 engine, i.e. it had 24 cylinders arranged in a "H" fashion, with four banks of air-cooled cylinders. Please see the photo, taken from "Der Flieger", Heft 4/1966 (mislabelled as As-413(sic) and also published at "Flugmotoren und Strahltriebwerke...", 5th edition, page 149). Its HP is stated to be between 3500 to 4000 (Der Flieger) and 2500 in "Flugmotoren". Bruno Lange (Tipenhandbuch der Deutschen Luftfahrttechnik) only states it was a bigger version of the As 412.

The second image (also from "Der Flieger") shows a quite similar air-cooled Argus engine, labelled as As-403(sic), comparing favorably its dimensions to the radial BMW 802 ( Lenght: 2,25m; width 92,5cm, eight 1,14m) which, according to "Flugmotoren, was 3,095 in lenght and 1,5m in width.

Now, it shows eight cylinders in each bank, making it a H-32 projected aircraft engine I never heard before, most certainly a spin-off of the As 403.

From "Argus Motorenmuster", dated June 1941. The first one is the As 403 P9, first known to me through Jane`s. The Hp matches, 2500 h.p. The second one is the Argus As 403 A, which matches Jane`s P5 at 3250 h.p.
