Listing a bunch of overtly right wing, inflammatory/alarmist articles which do creative cherry picking of the topic is a nice way to steer the conversation in a level headed direction....NOT!

OK, how about read what the people pushing for this "Green New Deal" actually published themselves.
https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5729035/Green-New-Deal-FAQ.pdf

Yes, we are calling for a full transition off fossil fuels and zero greenhouse gases.
Anyone who has read the resolution sees that we spell this out through a plan that
calls for eliminating greenhouse gas emissions from every sector of the economy.
Simply banning fossil fuels immediately won’t build the new economy to replace it –
this is the plan to build that new economy and spells out how to do it technically. We
do this through a huge mobilization to create the renewable energy economy as fast
as possible. We set a goal to get to net-zero, rather than zero emissions, in 10 years
because we aren’t sure that we’ll be able to fully get rid of farting cows and
airplanes
that fast, but we think we can ramp up renewable manufacturing and
power production, retrofit every building in America, build the smart grid, overhaul
transportation and agriculture, plant lots of trees and restore our ecosystem to get
to net-zero.

National mobilization our economy through 14 infrastructure and
industrial projects. Every project strives to remove greenhouse gas
emissions and pollution from every sector of our economy:

Totally overhaul transportation by massively expanding electric vehicle
manufacturing, build charging stations everywhere, build out highspeed
rail at a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary
, create
affordable public transit available to all, with goal to replace every
combustion-engine vehicle

I look forward to the high speed rail project to connect Hawaii to California. I'm sure it will be every bit as glitteringly efficient at the high speed rail project to Connect Los Angeles to... anywhere.

Instead of getting biased, reactionary views from others with arguably vested interests, how about people actually read what was put forward yesterday in the Green New Deal Resolution (it is only 14 pages long and not a lot of words and interestingly enough does not even mention banning air travel.... ::)):

Likewise, instead of watching sound bites taken out of context, why not actually watch the full speech and associated questions and answers from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Ed Markey and others yesterday:

Yes, but then you would miss an opportunity to get really, really upset.

Grey havoc it would be nice from you stop tainting that aerospace forum with Trump far right horse manure. More generally the hysterical bipolarisation of US politics has no place here.
Try reddit transterrestrial musings or the space review comments instead.

How does one get rid of air planes and NOT get rid of air travel? This idiot is a friggin' lunatic pandering to the, "gimme' the free shiz" / baby-gutting SJW crowd of useless oxygen thieves, who are too stupid to see the insanity of her "plan" and too passive to ask questions if they did. Also, I guess you didn't read the actual document. To reiterate what Scott already posted:

"We

as possible. We set a goal to get to net-zero, rather than zero emissions, in 10 years
because we aren’t sure that we’ll be able tofully get rid of farting cows and
airplanes that fast

Brilliant contribution, as usual. What ever would we do without you?

Going straight to “Appeal to ridicule”. Hmmm...that’s constructive.

very misleading topic title here.

What appears to be the truth from a reading of the proposal -

Progressive Democrats present an overly ambitious Green plan to "totally overhaul transportation" to the point where "air travel stops becoming necessary" within the continental US and aim to achieve zero emissions eventually via new technology. Even the report concedes it will take longer than 10 years to get rid of cows and airplanes.

Sounds like a job for Tony Stark Elon Musk.

That crazy group of left-wing SJWs, NASA, is investing lots of money in reduced emission aircraft technology. Reduced emission aircraft will likely arrive within 20 years.

Locked topic....
