Has anyone come across any detailed drawings or artists illustrations of this design? It's described in Submarine Torpedo Tactics: An American History as among other things doing away with the conning tower, having a single propeller as well as both upper & lower rudders, and reintroducing flood valves as well as incorporating automatic depth control. It also had a dedicated torpedo fire control space along the same lines as a surface ship's CIC. Designer was Lt. Commander Charles N. Hendrix. From the sounds of things it was intended as a next generation fleet boat.

From Cold War Submarines: The Design and Construction of U.S. and Soviet Submarines, page 361 there is a reference (reference 2) that states the following from Hendrix

"the paper is entitled “Submarine Future Developments: Ship Characteristics” (1945); located in Submarine Officers Conference files, NHC"

I did a quick Google search for that paper and did not find anything, but it may just be on a site that does not allow web crawlers.

NHC would be the Naval Historical Center, if that helps.
