Today MBDA Deutschland and Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) announced a new joint venture to pursue the next generation Integrated Air and Missile Defense System, "TLVS," for the German Bundeswehr. The joint venture is expected to become the prime contractor for the new system, which is currently being negotiated with Germany's procurement office for the Bundeswehr, BAAINBw.

Could we merge this discussion with the MEADS thread please since this is a partnership to offer a user specific variant of MEADS.

What's the difference between this and MEADS? ???

Not entirely sure but I think the TLVS lacks the MEADS surveillance radar and adds the IRIS-T.

German officials have so stretched the scope of desired capabilities of the former Medium Extended Air Defense System — the basis for TLVS — that the effort amounts to a new development, including a ramp for integrating defenses against hypersonic missiles.

Not looking good at all.

TLVS is basically MEADS minus the Italian input. It retains system developed by LM but with updated, German components in place of what was supposed to be Italian.
