The United States National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) has its own site, as well as at the Flickr Commons and at YouTube, where it also makes selected materials available.

This week they posted on YouTube a short documentary from 1968 entitled "Bridge to Space," which focuses on Cape Canaveral and operations there primarily surrounding Project Apollo. Interestingly, the film was originally shot in 70mm Ultra Panavision "Cinerama" super-widescreen format. The footage on YouTube (according to the NARA site referenced under the video) appears to be from a 35mm anamorphic reduction print and could use some restoration, but it is in remarkably good shape. It would be wonderful if the original 70mm print could be restored and converted to 4K digital format, but that is probably a bridge too far at this point. The film features footage of the crew of Apollo 7 (Wally Schirra, Walt Cunningham, and Don Eisele) training in a Command Module simulator at the Cape, as well the launch of presumably one of the unmanned Saturn V test flights.

Interesting to note that the director of that was friends with Kubrick, and worked as DP on the monkey scene in 2001
