The list of Supermarine type numbers shown elswhere on this site mentions the Supermarine 319 two seat fighter. I thoroughly searched* for more information on this aircraft but found nothing. I could not find an Air Ministry specification issued in 1936 or 37 for a two seat fighter which would have been the time such a specification was issued. Anyone got anything?

It is something of an enigma. It may have started out as a project for a turret fighter but the surviving drawings show two upward-firing cannon in the fuselage over the wing and two in a conventional mount in the nose. Conceptually it is similar to the modified Gloster F.9/37 but much larger, powered by two R-R Vultures it would have been a powerful aircraft

Gun mounts
There was an alternative version with six machine guns in each wing
