Hi,

it's new for me that, the Beriev Be.12 operated over my country in early 1970s to
make surveillance on the United States Navy's 6th Fleet in the Mediterranean, and
here is a drawing and picture.

Salaam Hesham

According to ACIG's Tom Cooper: Three Beriev Be-12 amphibs were operated by the 90th Independent Far Eastern Special Squadron of the Soviet AF from 1968 to 1972. First from from Cairo West AP, later from Marsa Matruh AFB.

The planes wore EAF markings but the crews were Soviet. About the squadron name, I suspect "far" eastern is a lapse. Middle Eastern seems more likely, especially for the Soviet empire extending to Anadyr.

And a picture of the plane in its dispersal cell:

Check the photo of Be-12, with wings covered by camouflage fabrics!

Three Beriev Be-12 amphibians belongs to "90 одраэ ОН" (90 odrae ON - 90th detached reconnoissance squadron, Special Purpose) in 1968-1970. Other aircraft types - Tu-16R, An-12PP, Il-38.
This squadron combines aircraft from various units of Soviet Navy - not VVS
Be-12 have been transferred from Black Sea Fleet, and returned to USSR in 1970.
More efficient Il-38 replaced them in the submarine' search operations.
