on June 1, 2017, LEGO will release a box for Saturn V with Apollo 11
a 1:110 scale brick model of the original, in almost 2000 pieces
standing it's about 39 inches, or 99 centimeters.
Model include Lunar Lander, Apollo capsule, three mini astronauts and American flag
it will be retail for $200 USD and will be available at LEGO stores around the world and online from June on.

I hope they offer also additional set like the Launch tower or Skylab configuration !

My son has just bought that and built it up. A most impressive model I do say. It comes with some tiny figures that are to scale and measure 1/2" (12.6mm) so that makes it 1/144 scale too if anyone is interested.

Hello !

If you have some pictures of it to share ...

took a few days to build - but here it is. I found that many shops that stock lego just would not have any left, or never had any at all. the best way i got my hands on one was via eBay !! Also the instruction booklet is huge 200 pages https://lc-www-live-s.legocdn.com/bigdownloads/buildinginstructions/6207578.pdf

Lego underestimated demand so the set is sold out, there are indications there'll be a second production run soon so don't pay silly prices on eBay...

I'll get some done on the weekend, my son can then show how the lander can be placed inside the top section. On the internet I found some photos of it compared to the Dragon 1/72 model of the same thing.
Quick question first though, can I post photos directly onto the forum, or does it have to go through a 3rd party host?

Thanks Paul, I'll get some pics done then.

I should mention the figures that come with the model are not your normal Lego figures. They look like the real astronauts in shape.

Hello !

Thanks for the link !

Just for fun in this topic, I made the Tournesol rocket, ten years ago ... Styro, wood, paper, glue, paint ... and hours ! Today I restore it because many accidents have broken a little the ailerons ! LEGO are better in this case !!!

The Corsair 1/72 give the scale (1200 mm high...).

This set is of one of the tiny figures that comes with it. Not totally like the real figure but correct scale.

remember that in my first post, i hoped for Lego Skylab ?

it's proposed in scale of 1:110, which is the same as the LEGO Saturn V
https://ideas.lego.com/projects/7d001367-12e0-473e-aee5-e6af83e4e6a6

and what about Crawler in 1:100 ?
https://ideas.lego.com/projects/0f8efc2a-ce0a-4285-9f2b-036bf3eb9f38

missing for Moment is Launch tower in scale 1:110... :(

Correction, there is a proposal for the Launch Platform for Lego Saturn V 1:110
and it almost hitting the 10000 Supporters !

Of course we can all drool over ( and hope for ) other lego additions to the Lego Saturn: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/a88109ec-9970-4fe1-98b4-9bd535856ab4

Bad News

Dispite support of 10000 fans, Lego has the "Saturn-V Launch Umbilical Tower" Not Approved.

Here LEGO statement on matter:
Review Results for NASA Saturn-V Launch Umbilical Tower
Our team has thoroughly considered the possibility of releasing this project as a LEGO set according to the criteria of the LEGO Review. Unfortunately the LEGO Review Board has decided that we will not produce this project as a set.

Thank you to whatsuptoday for the passion and creativity that went into this project, and to all of you who voted so that we would have the opportunity to consider this as a potential LEGO set. We’re sorry to deliver this disappointing news.

How do we arrive at our decisions?
By gaining 10,000 supporters, a fan-submitted project moves from the Idea Stage to the Review Stage, where it earns the opportunity to be considered as a future LEGO® set in a process called the “LEGO Review.” Gaining 10,000 Supporters is just the first step in this process.

A "LEGO Review Board" composed of professional set designers, product managers, marketing representatives, and other key team members examine each qualified project. They build concept models and determine if the concept meets our high standards for what it takes to be a LEGO product; including factors such as playability, safety, and fit with the LEGO brand. Every potential LEGO product, including those developed internally, goes through a similar process and must meet the same standards.

The amount of time this takes varies due to all the factors involved. Unfortunately, this process sometimes means that well-conceived projects that gain just-as-passionate followings have to be turned down. Please note that the LEGO Review Board makes all final decisions on which new sets the LEGO Group will release based on LEGO Ideas projects.

It is indeed a great pity !

It should be possible to build a LEGO launch tower with standard bricks. I thought that was the point of LEGO :p

It is possible to do that. IIRC the designers of the tower have released a list of parts you can plug into e.g. BrickLink to buy the parts.

Someone put the "Plans" and "Parts list" and "How to build" online

My partners Lego Saturn V, crawler and launch tower (Covid lockdown build !)

Apologies as totally OT. but here are some US. silo launched ICBM. a couple of 1945 period shapes, some rockets which Scott might recognise (ref. APR. vol 2/2), British rockets & missiles all from Lego bricks (this, and resorting to a razor saw, paint and glue are why I'm not allowed to play with Legos !)
