I know this thread dried up for a while, but I thought some follow-up might be worth it. That same ashtray in the beginning found its way to me for a custom overhaul. It did go through a major O. Thanks to you all, I was able to do enough research to improve the basic assemblies to something close to how the BB-1 Silver Lancer was designed. Of the 32 changes are these... new center float under the belly, underwing pontoons, new contra-rotating props, rare-earth magnet under the central pylon, updated lead pilot figure (circa 1938) and new nameplates. That old spring steel arm was replaced by one typically used by Daka-Ware ashtrays. Send me a note if you would like more details.

As an aside, the Bill Barnes airplane designs are commonly built and flown as rubber-powered balsa and tissue scale models in their fictitious scale categories.

Regards, Tom

Hi there. I´m from Cali, Colombia. I am a scale modeller and my next project is to make a model of Bill Barnes Snorter, in 1/8 scale!

The model will be exhibited at the Fénix Air Museum, (www.museoaereofenix.org), in Cali, Colombia. Some original copies of the novels will be exhibited with the model.

I want to know if someone can share the archive of the plans for both the Scarlet Stormer and the Snorter, which are published on this page, but with better resolution.

I leave a couple of links for you to know my work:

My father, Ferrando Acuña, was also a modeller and painter. He painted the Scarlet Stormer that appears on this page published without author credit. The painting was reviewed in this article:

I appreciate any help you can give me.

Hi Graham. Thanx's for your comment. I'm searching for a high resolution file of the 3 views drawing of the Bill Barnes Snorter and Scarlet Stormer planes you publish. Can you share it? I'm planing to scratch build those planes in 1/8th scale. I would appreciate any help about this Forgive my Spanglish.
Best regards from Cali, Colombia

Sorry! It's Hesham. Bad joke of the Translator option of my cellphone!

No problem Rocketero,

you can find it here;

easybuiltmodels.com will cheerfully sell you a kit for Bill Barnes "Silver Lancer" airplane. The kit includes enough laser-cut balsa wood pieces to build a rubber-powered, free-flight model.

Thanx's. I'm going to visit it!

Part of a Bill Barnes pulp novel. I ran out of time before I could scan all of the novel.

Hello Riggerob! Thanks for scanning "The Curse of the Killer". Please post when you get a chance to scan the full story. I have two Facebook pages dedicated to Bill Barnes: https://www.facebook.com/2theskies and the group where I post the scanned stories at https://www.facebook.com/groups/2317483738506752/?source_id=356481638551511. Please check them out.

Do you have other Bill Barnes stories to scan? I would like to include them in my personal collection and share them to my group. I have attached a spreadsheet with the stories I currently have. Contact me at billbarnes1934@hotmail.com, or through the Facebook pages.

I hope that we can set up sharing these wonderful stories.
