Good news phil,

I hope we a more projects than the book; Payne Stuck On The Drawingboard.

Okay, definitely going on my Amazon "Wish List". I'll probably pre-order as soon as I can.

Really looking forward to this
I know it is early days but is there any coverage of the De Havilland DH129 and collaboration with Dornier and any of the Westland Tilt Rotor/Tilt Wing transports included please?
Alan

Well, looks like the cat's out of the bag. It's suffering a V.1000-esque weight gain and choppers are first for the axe.

Meantime here's a couple of potential covers. I like the camo. Might put the white/grey on the cover and shit'n'custard inside.

Everyone hates helicopters and I can't think of a single successful book on helicopters as aside from Hinds and Apaches, they don't tend to comply with Rob Newman's Law on books.

Chris

You haven't spent enough time in them.

Chris

Don't know if you'll have much luck selling this book - I'll be buying a copy anyway.

You can't beat a vote of confidence, eh?

Chris

I'm confident it'll be a good read, but absence of fast pointy things might be a turnoff for some people. Probably the same people who can't be bothered with anything about flying boats. Rotters.

I like to look after the ginger step-children of the aviation world.

Next book is about very pointy, very fast things that go BANG!

Chris

Arjen, don't be so negative! :D

Chris, I like the cover on the left, but I would buy it with either cover.

Don't lose the helicopters! Or perhaps you could distribute the helicopter parts as an annex available to purchasers like the extra drawings in the 'Camm's last Fighter Projects' book?

You're right. Earlier post modified accordingly.

It's sad the helicopters have had to go, since they form an integral part of the story.

I don't understand where the anti-helicopter book sales thing come from. I'd buy one and I'm sure many others here would too. After all, had someone said ten years ago we'd have a book on British MPA aircraft and one on Transport aircraft most folks would have said the same thing, "it'll never sell", but Chris has proved that's wrong.

I'd go for the cover with the 'blue flash' rather than the deserty scheme in preference but both look good.

Will it feature VTOL and STOL transport projects from Warton?

Colin

Well, I'll try.

Well if it's a case of more pages or the cat I'll go with more pages!! ( please keep the RSPCA at bay! )

Good luck with the book and look forward to reading it when it's out

Colin

Is that another VC-10 based project in the Artwork ?

What about doing the Helicopters as a Project Tech Profile, you've already done half the work afterall ;D

I think the left-hand cover catches the eye more, but I'll buy it with either cover. I most certainly hope that something (either a supplement, even if only electronic, or a separate book - Project Tech style, or whatever) can be done to cover helicopters.

In any case, I will definitely pre-order it as soon as possible.

You haven't spent enough time in them.

Five years as a Medievac Pilot. As I told the blowpipe jockeys - when you are sitting up to your rear end in a rice paddy and have your survival radio out - just how fast movers are you praying for to save you? We got real popular real fast.

When I was in my money was worthless in every Officers Club in the country regardless of branch.

Chris - I will be ordering it as soon as it is posted in the US and if you do a helicopter one - I'll buy that one too.

At least four by my count

Excellent, I'll order a new Jag.

Chris

Charge £1000 a copy... it'll be a retail hit.
At that price it better have absolutely every single helicopter ever thought of in huge detail

Chris is right - books about helicopters just don't sell. Sad but true. On Atlas' Shoulders looks like being a superb tome (if past experience is anything to go by) and I'll be getting myself one for Christmas.

Yet your doing a BSP on a British Shuttle programme that virtually none have ever heard of - interesting

Admittedly, from an outsider's perspective I can see 'British Space Shuttle' catching the attention of people more than helicopters, but that's just thinking at a glance.

As to the book of the thread, it's certainly gone onto my Amazon watch list - already picked up Battle Flight, Vulcan's Hammer and Nimrod's Genesis, so this should be a fun addition to it all. Especially as I've been kicking myself for not picking up most of Chris' earlier Project Guides before they dissapeared.

'Chris' earlier Project Guides before they dissapeared'

Eh? Didn't disappear, Amazon took the piss! They're available from specialist bookshops or direct from me.

Aviation Book Centre
Ian Allan Bookshops

North of the wall, I recommend Word Power Books in Edinburgh.

If you want them, I've got them.

Chris

Which titles have you got, how many and how much

Do you take paypal, cheque?

Thanks

I have the lot. See the relevant thread for each title or PM me.

I'm sure our collective bookshelves could take the strain... you just need a publisher with more ambition. :p

Well, helicopters or not, I shall doubtless be seeking this out when the time comes. Much to SWMBO's annoyance. She has this delusion that we should own some things that aren't naval and aviation books. Madness, I know.

a Vickers project loosely based on the VC-10 (wings and tail of similar design but 20% larger, 4x the fuselage volume)
