Breaking. His Facebook page has a possible memorial post.

We'll know in a few days if an official obituary is posted by the family in the newspapers.

Hoping is not true, it would be terrible.....
I have the honour to work with Steve and also share his friendship (even at half world of distance).

Please, can anyone confirm?

That are really sad news...

Unfortunately that is sad truth... :'(
Godspeed, Steve Pace

His last post on SPF was just 4 days ago ... I hope he is in airplane heaven.

:'(
Steve Pace was just 3 days ago last active on this forum.
I was glad to help him out in 2010, when I send him my copy of a B-29 book as gift. He needed it for research for his own book "B-29 Combat Missions", which came out in 2011.
At that time, I didn't have a PayPal account. So we came to an agreement, that he donated the postage costs to this forum.
Next week I have some time off after a work project. I had planned to order a signed copy of his lastest book "Big Book of X-Bombers & X-Fighters". But I will still order this new book and also "The Projects of Skunk Works". May my little contribution support his family!

Godspeed, -SP
:(

Steve died on the morning, May 19...

I wonder what happened. Seems a bit out of the blue. :'(

Godspeed Steve my friend....
I hope God may give you the silver wings to fly forever in the sky. :'(

I know that he was operated to his heart a couple of times in past, I suppose this could be the cause,

"Steve Pace is a freelance aviation history writer, a contributing editor to Flight Journal, and the author of numerous articles and short features on a variety of aircraft and related subjects, as well as thirty aviation history books, including The Big Book of X-Bombers and X-Fighters (2016). He was raised in Seattle, Washington, where his father worked at the Boeing Airplane Company for more than thirty years. As the son of an aircraft builder, he became interested in aviation at an early age - instead of buying candy and marbles, he bought model airplane kits".

Damn, that aviation writer community in the sky is getting too many good characters.

I was just about to ask. Saw something on FB from a friend of his. Oh man, if this is true... that really sucks! :(

This is sad news. Is there an RIP thread on the open part of the forum?

To paraphrase John Magee for Steve Pace specific:

High Flight (Edited)

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of --Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew --
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the nose of a P-51 Mustang.

RIP

Rest in peace Steve and my condolences to his family.

I follow Steve Pace on Facebook. Yesterday (Friday, May 20th) I received a note from a woman identifying herself as Steve's sister via Steve's Facebook page. This is her note:

"Patty Whitman: Mr. Walker-my brother Steve Pace passed away yesterday.
Like · Reply · Yesterday at 5:31pm"

Has anyone else heard anything about Steve?

Darn. I oly knew him from the forum, but he was knowledgable and a nice guy to boot.

Condolences to his family, and happy sky-trails Steve!

(Moderators: we might want to move this thread out of Private Discussions now that Steve's passing has been confirmed)

I believe forum admin have been seeking confirmation. It doesn't look good. A great loss for his family and us if confirmed. But a life lived well that has given great books for many others to enjoy and learn from.

I read it just now and i'm at a loss for words.

It saddens me deeply.

He was the first one to ask me if I were interested in providing images for his latest book, supporting my passion and boosting my drive to become a better artist, as much as possible for me.

He gave me trust even before I could have achieved anything in this field.

In spite of his long experience he treated me, a newcomer, with kindness and respect. Always willing to lend a hand and hear my doubts on the works he had commissioned me.

In all the emails we exchanged in this last year...

It saddens me so deeply.

I can only hope his family and friends may find peace and comfort in knowing he was a great aviation writer, but above all a good man.

He will be missed.

This is an unexpected shock and sad news indeed.
My condolences go to his family.

My condolences to the family. This kind of thing is always disheartening to hear.

Very sad to read of Steve Pace's death. My condolences to his family.

A Good Man. He did marvelous and admirable work. Our community has lost a friend. My prayer go out for his family.

Smooth winds my friend.

It is obviously hard to take the full measure of a man by his posts on a single website. Yet Steve was always a gentleman, self effacing at times and an important contributor at SPF and the world of aviation history. There is no doubt in my mind I would have enjoyed meeting and talking aerospace technology with him.

RIP Steve.

Really sad news :'(

I'll miss you so much Mr Pace. I truly appreciate your contribution to aerospace history.

RIP

Rip Mr Pace, feels like we / the site should wear a black arm band or its flag at half mast for a few days.

Steve, I see cou cruising forever in your Mustang on an endless highway ...
RIP

'Steve Pace was a dear friend of mine..... he passed away in his sleep sometime during the evening of Wednesday the 18th, from an apparent heart attack. He was loved by so many, including me, you couldn't have asked for a better friend. He was such a sweet soul. His work will forever live in the hearts of those readers that loves aviation the way he did. And he would have wanted me to say thanks to those those that helped him with his books. His final book, that was just completed is called Skunk Works and it will come out in mid December. It was his 32nd or 33rd book on Aviation. He was truly proud of this last one. Gods speed Steve, rest in peace until we meet again.'

Good Speed Steve Pace and my deepest condolences to his family.

Very sad news. A great author, and a real gentleman.

My condolences to his family and friends.

It will be with both sadness at his passing, but with the usual interest and enlightenment from his work, that I will read his last book this winter:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Projects-Skunk-Works-Lockheed-Development/dp/0760350329?ie=UTF8&ref_=asap_bc

His contributions to the forum and to the wider world of aviation will be greatly missed.

Rest in peace.

Mr Pace,
My prayers for your Soul, and for your family left behind.

I hope that you got the Mach 5 monster escort to the skies.
