I remember hearing after the Volta Conference of High Speed Flight (1935), a scientist by the name of Eastman Jacobs did some research on supersonic wind-tunnels as early as 1936 in the US. I'm not sure if it was actually built however.

I'm curious as to when the first supersonic wind-tunnel was built in the US whether it be unreliable, reliable, designed for testing aircraft and bodies of revolution.

The first supersonic wind tunnel ever was in Teddington, England, in 1922, according to this: https://aviation.stackexchange.com/questions/33803/what-was-the-first-supersonic-wind-tunnel

And this article seems to indicate that the first ones in the United States were at Langley: https://www.hq.nasa.gov/pao/History/SP-440/ch5-3.htm
