Forthcoming book: Projects of the Skunk Works: 75th Anniversary

Re: Forthcoming book: LOCKHEED MARTIN SKUNK WORKS: 75th Anniversary

Will this book be strictly Lockheed Skunkworks, or will it include any of the competing designs from GD/Fort Worth(Super Hustler, FISH, Kingfish, etc.), since this is now part of the Lockheed/Martin heritage?

Re: Forthcoming book: LOCKHEED MARTIN SKUNK WORKS: 75th Anniversary

Of course, yes! Couldn't do it without with out them. -SP

Re: Forthcoming book: LOCKHEED MARTIN SKUNK WORKS: 75th Anniversary

It just gets better. And better! Can't wait

Re: Forthcoming book: LOCKHEED MARTIN SKUNK WORKS: 75th Anniversary

Will there be decent-sized drawings of the P-80D and P-80E proposals? I'd love to get a drawing large enough to model those wings from.

Re: Forthcoming book: LOCKHEED MARTIN SKUNK WORKS: 75th Anniversary

Here's a Youtube video I found on the L-133.

Re: Forthcoming book: LOCKHEED MARTIN SKUNK WORKS: 75th Anniversary

These are absolutely amazing. True assets for your book.

Not that keen on Guiseppe de Chiara's three-views personally, not because of the art or the colors, which are always superb... but simply because of the rather crude way he does the light reflections: on the wings, for instance, it's always the same straight light bar halfway across the middle, but in actual lighting it wouldn't work that way at all. It makes it look like the wings are tubular. Or the way he did the light on the fin here makes it look like it's thicker and as if it suddenly became blunt towards the edges, while the taper is actually much progressive. This is only my opinion of course, not meant to be derogatory but meant as constructive criticism; I'm perfectly aware of how difficult lighting is, and that it's one of the most difficult things to master (I'm far from satisfied with it on my own works most of the time).

Now there's a concept... a Lockheed Archangel all made of wool... Pet plush aircraft for aviation buffs' kids... You're on to something, mate! ;D ;D ;D

But seriously, it's always best not to think like that or we can never move ahead. There will always be people immensely more gifted than we are at what we do (whatever it is we do) and so instead just focus on how much progress you've made in the past ten years, that will boost your morale!! ;)

Re: Forthcoming book: LOCKHEED MARTIN SKUNK WORKS: 75th Anniversary

I'm hoping that now Russia and China have a good understanding of stealth, the archives to the early manned test airframes are opened up a wee crack. Would love to know what that curved football shaped aircraft was.

Looking forward to information on Senior Prom since I worked on Northrop's "winning" competitor, AGM-137 TSSAM, that they then managed to mis-manage into termination.

I suppose that you live not so far from me, since I'm experiencing the same ultra-hot summer...(obviously my PC too).

This looks like a great book, Steve. I look forward to it with great enthusiasm. However, i would love to see some data, history & good three-views of the Suntan program. Did i not see it listed? or is it not part of the topic?

So glad to see all this new artwork of yours, Josef!! And glad you show up on the forum nowadays!

Steve's book sounds like a really worthwhile addition to any library... I have of course the Jay Miller book but there's quite a substantial amount of new stuff in this new project that will make the purchase really worth the while I'm sure.

Thanks, Stephan - I wouldn't be surprised if Jay revised his book for the upcoming 75th Anniversary... -SP

Can't remember exactly, but I remember reading about it in a book (name of book and author now forgotten) many years ago that it was Tacit Rainbow.

Re: Forthcoming book: LOCKHEED MARTIN SKUNK WORKS: 75th Anniversary

I believe I remember it, but I'm not sure I'm cleared to repeat it yet. I will say it was not in the Tacit series.
