The idea was to maintain laminar flow. To do that they needed short chord - so to keep the aspect ratio from getting silly while providing enough wing, they went for a biplane.

Hi,

anther projects to Boeing but I think it was imagine
projects not really;

Patents taken out by random inventors/lunatics are too far off topic in my opinion.

I agree with Overscan

The last patent is totally lunatic and has no interest to this forum

"The last patent is totally lunatic "
Well, this principal was used for the Agusta A 119 in four engined form,
a contender for NBMR 4 from 1961, although I could imagine, that
flight control in a hover would be easier to achive with 4 lift vectors,
instead of only two.
(also see http://www.vtol.org/pdf/stov59.pdf )

Jemiba,

I was talking about that Boeing 1 and Boeing 2 drawings...are they real?

Oh, sorry, I was reffering to the last drawings in the post !
Yes, these tandem and triple wings really look comic like,
especially as all wings are carrying engines ! ::)

Actually... yes. The design is slightly different in details, but Boeing did put together such a beast. I don't have the data hear in front of me, but it was meant as a VTOL heavy lifter... and two of the intended payloads were the first and second stages of the Model 813 hypersonic bomber that I describe in my "Preview."

Sometimes the wacky patents aren't complete nonsense.

It looks like a quick and dirty counter to the Bréguet 941 aka McDonnell 188...

Note... this was at least a *somewhat* serious design. I've got drawings of it somewhere. I don't think that it had a Model number, though.

I hope to find it dear Orion,

the Boeing tandem wing airliner and aft double deck
airplane.

That second one is the famed "Hunchback of Mulkiteo" design when Boeing was looking for ways to increase the capacity of the 767 design (ultimately moving ahead with the 777 and the 767-400 designs). The nickname came from a Seattle surburb. From what I recall, airlines polled were very lukewarm at best with the idea of a hunchbacked 767......

Good info dear Sentinel,

more strange aircraft designed by Boeing and North
American.

Hesham, NOT Boeing AND North American, BUT Boeing North American, Inc.

Boeing North American (BNA), Inc. acquired this Seal Beach facility in late 1996 from North American Rockwell. The multi-building facility was used by Rockwell to build large defense and space hardware including Apollo launch vehicle stages. Boeing has two major divisions: commercial space (primarily airplanes), and defense and space. This Seal Beach facility was acquired to enhance the capabilities of the defense and space division.

That last one appears to be the aborted 7J7 program which would have had a twin aisle jetliner powered by GE UDF engines. I believe the "J" came from plans to have significant participation by the Japanese aerospace industry.

Yes dear Sentinel,

I found a drawing to Boeing 7J7,it was it.

And there is Boeing-754 (with Burnelli) and Boeing-1878
ATF study fighter.

the Boeing fighter had low aerodynamic drag and
lower radar signature.

Interesting...does it mean that Boeing guys invented weapon bays disposition on YF-22 and just tried to left this copyrighted?

According to published accounts Boeing's ATF proposal concentrated heavily on their weapons bay, so its quite possible the YF-22 arrangement was their "baby".

We have it here, BTW

Patent that Hesham found was prolongated in 1995

Boeing Heliwing

Boeing Heliwing vehicle of the early 1990s. This vehicle had a 1450-lb maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) with a 200-lb payload, 5-hour endurance and 180 kts maximum speed and used twin rotors powered by a single 240 SHP turbine engine/

Boeing's Heliwing VTOL UAV took off and landed vertically from a tail-sitting position, but transitioned from hover into fixed-wing forward flight by nosing over. One demonstrator was built, which crashed while attempting its first retransition from forward flight to landing hover on its sixth flight on 13 Jun 95.
