turbines,project only.

anther projects to Bristol:
model-179 Freighter:project for a twin boom version.
model-179A Freighter:project for a version with upswept tail and ramp-loading door.

But, as a bonus, the Bristol 205, medium range jet liner ;)

(All drawings from R.Payne "Stuck on the drawing board", highly recommended !)

Hallo all,

there are two pics of Bristol aircraft projects, but I have no Type-number. Do you know the correct designation?
1) Bristol 100-Ton Bomber evtl. Type 168 ?
2) Bristol H.7/42

According to the following sources:

BSP Fighters and Bombers 1935-50 (Tony Buttler)

Giants of the Sky (Bill Gunston)

The British Aircraft Specifications File (Air-Britain Publication)

seems that no Type Number was raised for that 100-ton bomber

I haven't found which design match with Type 168 number (Type 167 is Brabazon I/II and Type 169 is the Buckingham)

H.7/42 is Torpedo Bomber developed from Beaufighter required to meet OR.117. Dated 3/12/42 and Issued 10/12/42 to Bristol. Type number is 164: Bristol Brigand.

p.s. 100ton design with butterfly tail was Bristol's second attempt for a 100ton bomber.
Butterly tail was also used in the first concepts for the 167 Brabazon.

Thanks for the list Hesham, but I think GOR339 was issued at least 2 years after the 1957 Defense Review axe cancelled the F155T and other projects. I can't see how an aircraft designed later than 1957 can be designated 'F155T'.

However, I do remember reading in a 60's book on Bristol aircraft of a 204 derived aircraft being offered to Canada as a 'Commonwealth Fighter'. However, the illustration was just of the GOR339 project.

Hi starviking,

I think the Bristol-204 was from GOR339 contenders and
the new book speak about that,also see;
http://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,1988.0.html

Did the Bristol Superfreighter variant get a special Type 170 sub-designation?

It was known as the Type 170 Mk.32

Regards Bailey.

Hi Folks,

I'm doing a bit of research for some new pages at www.adf-serials.com.au and am looking for any info and drawings of both:

  • Bristol 179B (I see we already have a drawing of the 179A - very nice!)
    Bristol 195
    Shorts PD.16/1

All three types were offered and considered by the RAAF during the selection process for a C-47 replacement in 1954-55.

Ultimately, the C-130A was selected for RAAF service and 12 were purchased.

All help will be acknowledged online.

Many thanks

Brendan

There's a thread on the PD16 here
https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,10489.msg125708.html

Many thanks Schneiderman,

The version of the PD.16 offered to the RAAF was designated PD.16/1 and I have wondered how his differed from the PD.16.

As always - there is more to discover!

Cheers

Resurrection!? Or do I need a new thread?
Bristol 211 " short range version of type-205 with wing engines".
'Stuck on the drawing Board' says the engines were BE47

But what are BE47 please? I've used 'search' but no results and Googled everything I could think of.

But what are BE47 please? I've used 'search' but no results and Googled everything I could think of.

I found a teensy bit of info in a 1956 American Aviation (Volume 20, Spotlight, page 18) which listed the BE47
as a 6,000 lbt civil turbojet aimed at the Bristol 200 airliner for BEA (rear-engined twin layout in the example given).

So, seemingly, a smaller turbojet rather than the ' ducted fan' Orpheus derivative planned for the Type 205.

Thanks Apophenia. Some idea of size and thrust was what I wanted.
Stuck on the Drawing Board said just that Bristol 211 was a 1958 study for a "four-wing-mounted BE47 development of the Bristol 205"

As the same thing in Blackburn list,we found many un-numbered
designs, and I suggest that,Bristol had another unknown series,
