Hi folks.
Again, hope this isn’t old news but here’s a sort of annular-wing ‘flying crane’ to lift conventional aircraft (and other payloads) vertically. Some details below. All best, ‘Wingknut’

“A multipurpose airborne vehicle, comprising a fuselage, a wing, and a power unit, CHARACTERIZED in that the fuselage is made up of two spanwise-curved aerodynamic lifting airfoils joined together in a horizontal plane of the vehicle to form a ring, the power unit consists of several gas-turbine engines, each having a ramjet duct, a shortened jet nozzle, an after-burner, and a flywheel member, and also rotor units provided with a control actuator of their blades; the rotor units have nozzles arranged along the axis of rotation at the ends of the rotor blades and are joined together with said ring along the perimeter thereof with a possibility of rotation so as to form a movable part of the vehicle lifting airfoils.”
