also from Sailplane and Glider magazine,a strange project looks like
the concept from WW2.

NACA has also worked on the subject, starting in 1946 till the late 40s:

NACA has also worked on the subject, starting in 1946 till the late 40s:
Hirth allready patented soething like this in the 20th. According to them, the prop was turning extremly silent and no engine noise could be heard (I have my doubts...).
 
Some of the Horten flying wing designs used something like an Air-Screw propeller.
