I'm rather sick with the Man Flu at the moment so to entertain myself have been researching some national etymology. If anyone wants to play along try and identify the following nations after their names have been translated into simple English. Please feel free to offer your own suggestions.

United Kingdom of Fishhooks and Outcasts
United States of Home Ruler
Peoples’ Land Group Ruled by People
Shrewmouse Island
Rower’s Land

A few more fully translated country names:

From the Burnt Field Land
Land of the People Who Swell (In Anger)
Burned Face Land
Village
High Castle

Not sure how we would play without having a set of the Atlas of True Names maps:

Wow, they're pretty cool. I think that I will buy some of these.

BTW

United Kingdom of Fishhooks and Outcasts: United Kingdom of England (Angles as in an angle and angler) and Scotland (Scotti)
United States of Home Ruler: United States of America (America is a variation of Heinrich)
Peoples’ Land Group Ruled by People: Federal Republic of Germany
Shrewmouse Island: Spain (Hispania)
Rower’s Land: Russia (Rus means rower and also ‘travel/adventure’ to the Old Norse).
From the Burnt Field Land: Switzerland
Land of the People Who Swell (In Anger): Belgium
Burned Face Land: Ethiopia
Village: Canada
High Castle: Korea (North Korea use the other historic name for Korea: Chosen which means ‘Land of the Morning Calm’)
