One of the losing bidders for the JHL concept design and analysis contracts was Baldwin Technology with its whacky Mono Tilt Rotor (MTR). The US Army continues to fund design work on a subscale demonstrator, the MTR-SD, that could also be the basis of a VTOL cargo UAV that can be folded to fit inside a cargo container.
