This was the last variant of the prolific Ouragan / Mystere family.
It replaced the Atar 101 of standard SMB-2 by an Atar 9. The Mirage III engine had 1500 kgp more power, and this aparently pushed top speed to mach 1.4 (this seem unclear, sources says mach 1.2). Only one was built and used as testbed for the
Atar 9.
Any 3-view, photos and specs of the aircraft ?

Hi Archie ! :)

There were two SM B4 "test bed" for the ATAR 9 :

-SM B4-01 : first flight 09/02/58 with an ATAR 9 "stade 1" (5 400 kgp ?). Max speed M 1,06

-SM B4-02 : first flight 15/10/58, with an ATAR 9 "stade 1". Later With an ATAR 9 "stade 2" (6 000 kgp): Max speed : M 1,30

Before the SM B4 test bed, there was a "tout temps" (I don't know in english : all weather ?) project with an ATAR 9 and a little radar in a little "point" in the upper front of the air entry. But He was canceled.

Thanks Mr Ventilateur de Delta (as Google would translate your member name).
All weather is the correct word (Javelin FAW = Fighter All Weather).

I'm interested in the modifications from the SMB-2 to the SMB-4. I suppose the rear part of the aircraft was quite different because of the afterburner and longer engine.
Any 3-view or pics of the aircraft ? ;D

I'm not suprised there had been an AW (All Weather) SMB-2 project : all its ancestors has had their own two-seat AW variant !
(MD-451, MD-453, Mystere IVN).
The fact that the AW SMB-2 was never built surely explain by the fact that the Vautour was already in service and the Mirage IIIC was coming...

Model of the SMB-2 (in 1/72) is coming (can't remember what builder) and I still have some Atar 9 exhausts. ;D

"..all its ancestors has had their own two-seat AW variant ! "

But if you have a look into Cunys "Les Avions De Combat Francais", then you'll
see, that for the SMB-4 "AW" the second crew member would have had to be
a very small person, the cockpit looks like a single seater. ;D

Ecce SM B-4... 8) Not difficult, thanks to Jean Cuny Le Grand ;)
Project and prototype differed in details: project was longer (14.35 vs 13.95), heavier (9700 KG versus 9250) and slightly less fast in reaching 12,000 m (3' 50" vs 3' 45")
